DON'T BUY METRO GUARD! (Phone protection plan)

Why shouldn't you buy Metro Guard, you ask? Because you must pay a medium-high deductable to get a another phone. And this "other phone" is not a new one, but a referbished one. Meaning you could be dealing with a phone with water damage, scraches, and other semi-noticable-but-annoying-things. Surrrre... Its a buck a month, but its a pain to file a claim, wait for it to be approved, wait for it to arrive, only to get a USED phone for more than half the price of a new one!

What do you do then, you ask?

Go to Best Buy and buy your phone there! Why? Because they have there own protection plan thats a billion times better than MetroGuard. All you gotta do to sign up is give name, phone number and address and a one time fee (under $20 for phones under priced under $150) and your protected! Then once something happens, just bring your receipt, phone, and as much of the orignal packaging as possible to any Best Buy store and get a new phone of equal or lesser value! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

Root your phone and mess up system files? NO WORRYS!
Drop your phone from a 2 Story building and crack the screen, very badly? NO WORRYS!
DROP YOUR PHONE FROM AN AIRPLANE?! er... if you can find all the peices... NO WORRYS!!!

You can buy protection for non-Best Buy phone also! (Provided the phone is sold at Best Buy)

Don't have a local Best Buy?
Use the Manufactures Warrenty or buy a new phone...

1. A manufacturer REFURBISHED phone comes in a like-new condition, meaning new housings, internals, whatever it took to get it to function
2. Funny you say filing a claim is a pain, takes about 5 mins on phoneclaim.com, its really up to you to get it fast if you send your filled affidavit with a photocopy of an I.D, you can even email it if you dont have fax for gods sake, i think even a caveman could do it, i recall filing a claim one day at around 6 p.m. and receiving my NEW replacement the following day while having lunch at noon
3. Funny you say more than half the price, try your math with the POS esteem as a fair example, $100 is NOT half of $270, lets not even make the comparison with the gs3 or even that ZTE POS, it is also important to remember that these are worst case scenarios $99 & $129 deductibles, for inferior phones under $200 i believe theyre as low as $59, and if thats the case, i dont see the need in insuring a $50-$150 device, not much to loose kinda defeats the need for insurance.
4. Oh yeah, forsure, be right back... let me go get the GS3 at bestbuy. maybe you can answer my question, WHAT THE F*CK DO I DO IF THEY DONT HAVE THE DAMMN PHONE?...Bestbuy is getting the phone in time for Christmas in December IF theyre lucky, i find it wise to wait yet another 2 months to buy a phone thats then even more outdated & further into its lifetime, thats definitely the most bang for your buck. This is for every phone Bestbuy gets their metro phones at least 2-3 months after they are released, so to anyone out there planning to buy any phone, remember the 2 months of nail bitting
5. Funny phoneclaim/asurion doesnt require any of those things you mentioned...incluiding the phone itself.

I am not saying METROGUARD is the best thing out there, or that it can be compared to ANY insurance/buyback options offered at BestBuy since theyre considerably superior and more beneficial. But for what it is to pay $5/month and a BS deductible, im sorry but i'd do it, as well as im sure 75% of MPCS customers, that due to unfortunate circumstances or maybe just one reason or another, DIDNT buy their phones at a BestBuy lol. You just cant sit here and argue that METROGUARD is useless, specially when you dont have your facts straight to begin with, because if it was really that useless, it wouldnt exist lol, and to say EVERYBODY GO BUY YOUR PHONE AT BESTBUY! you'd have to take into consideration that not only do people NOT buy their phones at bestbuy due to this late availability issue, but because 'theres a metro store for that' its like saying 'go buy your car at carfax', yes you might do better than buying it at a dealership, but then again nobody has that mindset, and certain people like myself would rather have their $550 well spent on release date for the GS3 than $500 in a couple months when the new thing has come out or is closer to come out, its like having a 0mile 1990 honda accord, what good is it now? There is no question Bestbuy offers better insurance and buyback options, but then its not all that good idea when theyre not so solid selling MPCS.
i think metroGUARD works fairly well for those whos needs are met, if theyre not, as in the case of phones not worth insuring, or youre too lazy to fill out a form and send it thru email and fax, then metroGuard isnt for you.

I wasn't saying MetroGuard is useless, I was just pointing out to people that Best Buy is a better option. Also my experiences with MetroGuard was a bit pile of shit when I had to go though it a few months ago, it was the whole reason I posted this because i didn't want people going though the shit I went though. But I guess they suddenly got their shit together recently....

They've always had it together. Never once had a problem filing claims. Deductible is usually 1/3 of the price of the phone plus $5 a month. Claims take minutes to do. Was very easy to do.

Like i stated above, there is no question BestBuy offers better insurance/buback serivces, in fact, some of the best out there i believe, but when you cant get your phone at BestBuy for one reason or another then what are you supposed to do? lol there is other options out there, some good, some bad, i'd rate metroGUARD a 7 out of 10. BestBuy is not the only phone retailer or insurer out there lol after all thats why we dont have monopolies, more options for people to find something that suits their needs better.
At $5/mo and like someone above me said 1/3 of the price of the phone + nextday shipping, i dont find it a bad option, but then again for those who find it extremely hard to file a claim, and pay an extra $5/mo when they spend it in fastfood either way, then metroGUARD is not the option for you.
might wanna find an option that does your laundry, feeds you and hands you a pacifier at night as well, seen as filing a claim is this impossible mission to accomplish.
life is as hard as you make it for yourself.

I am curious as to whether the OP is citing from personal experience or just what he's read or heard about how easy peasy and no hassle the BB get a new phone under warranty part is.

Frankly, I ain't buyin' it.

A quick Google shows bunches of people who didn't get their replacement BB phones so easy and carefree. Just from what I have heard over the years, I would trust BB with my money about as far as I could throw them.

Furthermore, currently they are circling the last 3" before leaving the bidness world toilet. Right now, I wouldn't bet you $20 that BB is around (around out of bankruptcy anyway) this time next year. I can also easily see a future bankruptcy a convenient way to be able to tell all the current warranty owners, "so sorry, the bankruptcy voids that prior warranty".

I would avoid a BB warranty for a $500 phone like a West Memphis hooker.

From the plans I've seen, Metroguard seems to be the best with a possible glance to SquareTrade.

The Best Buy protection plan is the whole reason I have a Android phone right now. The first one was an Optimus M that got a whole water bottle spilled on it and the other was a Admire that I bricked :o and MetroGuard was no help when I had the Optimus M...
