Not sure myself, but if you call and ask nicely and treat the people you talk to with respect they can sometimes bend over backwards to make you happy, and I'm sure they are coached by their managers to give out the double 4g to existing customers if they feel it is best for CS.

It also depends on how indoctrinated the reps have been. I'm sure they have been given a great deal of training on how to not give away anything they don't have to.

But I think it's safe advice for somebody calling them to be nice. I've rarely heard of people getting what they want by starting out the conversations by being complete assholes.

Being nice never hurts, the rep is always more likely to help you if you don't piss him off.
 
I just ordered my first ever smartphone today...the RAZR MAXX..."being nice" allowed me to upgrade my 4G USB modem even though it was nowhere near due...I also got the 22GB/Mobil Hotspot plan in the promotion ($100)

My first post here...but probably not my last...I'm fairly tech savvy (with PC's) but will likely need some help with the phones.

Also...I have been calling asking questions about the plans and phones for weeks, that may have had something to do with me getting the upgrade...or maybe its because I have 5 devices...3 phones (my sons was the only smartphone), and two 4G USB modems.

1,400 family plan...$89
Additional line.......$10 (my wife)
10 GB USB plan.....$80
5GB USB plan........$50 (my wife)
My sons phone, separate plan, same bill (Casio GzOne Commando)...$120 (grandfathered unlimited data)...he is supposed to take over this line soon and pay for it himself, just waiting to build some credit history so he don't have to pay the security deposit.

All that equals one heck of a phone bill, LOL...I'm a heavy haul truck driver though and need the mobile internet for permits and stuff...I live in one of those areas where the only options we have is dial up or mobile broadband internet.

Add all that up with the fact that I've been a Verizon customer for a very long time...they owed me, LOL.
 
I made my 4th attempt at an early upgrade today, trying to get Razr Maxx. Still nothing. My upgrade is at the end of April, so I will miss the double data if things don't work out soon. I'm also a truck driver, away from home 5 weeks at a time. Truck Stop WiFi is a joke so all I have is Verizons mobile broadband. I'm using 7-8GB a month on 5GB plan. I really need the double data!

You probably already know this...but its all in who you get on the phone, and being polite also helps.

I just explained that I wasn't leaving Verizon or disconnecting any services, I'm a happy Verizon customer...I simply wanted to consolidate devices and get a smartphone.

It worked that time anyway...with a different rep...it may not have, and didn't the first several times I hinted about it.

Try again for the early upgrade. It worked for me last week. My upgrade was also at the end of April. I am waiting for the MAXX to come in though... I called 2 times. First time no luck, second I literally got told "You actually have a line available for a upgrade" I said something like " I do, thats great.. blah" She said something like 'Well its actually 2 months away but in a situation like this we can upgrade you early' (my phone quit working properly, and a old phone I borrowed from a family member did not work correctly either)

I hope I get my phone within in the next few days! Supposed to ship by the 16th at latest.
 
I was grandfathered with unlimited data for my DRM, so I tried to get the double data for my daughters phone (she has my old Droid X), and they told me it is only for 4G phones, not 3G.

Tried twice, and got the same response both times, with different CSRs. Oh well.
