Don't leave home without seeing ..............

Always use a Hammer
We go on a holiday in a couple of days. The destination is the USA. :driver:
3 weeks of fun, meeting nice people and see wonderful things.
Please show us the must see things that you think we don't dare to miss.

We start in the DC area, and somehow end up in Alabama, before travelling west into New Mexico , Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California and finally fly home again from LA.

:car:

I'd normally recommend taking the southern route into California-- I 40 would bring you past the Grand Canyon and through the Mojave Desert.

Going up to Cheyenne... if you have the time, a diversion up to Yellowstone would be a good idea. Otherwise, perhaps swing through Yosemite Valley on your way from San Francisco to LA. I'm all about our National parks.

If you decide to stick to the coastal California route, then head out to Pismo Bay for some clam chowder.

While you're in the Bay Area, if you are able to find it (they're based in Petaluma, Sonoma County), get some bread from Della Fattoria. I did my internship there years ago and even in the bread heaven that is the Bay Area, it's top notch. :)

They distribute to some markets in San Francisco (or they did when I was there), primarily Whole Foods.

The route along the I-40 i did that 3 years ago. I've been to the USA several times, but never in the Eastern States.

Grand Canyon, Bryce, Monument valley, Zion, to name a few, the whole southwest we've been there. The route into Colorado is a reprise from my first holiday in 92. I like to show my wife the Rockies and the trees in Fall.

@ Gmash, yeah, i like rollercoasters a lot. I'm what you call a adrenaline junkie.:trytofly:

Thanks for the tip!

It is too bad you will be missing the NE states. Let me whisper this in case Huh may be reading this thread. :D:D

On Saturday Sept 13. their will be 'Connecticut on tap' in Danbury. People will have a chance to sample over 120 different craft brewers beer. This is the first time I have heard of it, so I don't know if it is a regular event.

Anyhow, just let me say enjoy your trip to the west coast. :)

I know you guys are big music lovers. Are you planning on stopping at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It looks like you will be close.

Thanks! Good to know about the beer stuff. I like that.
In a couple of years we come back for a holiday in the NE states incl a short stay in New York.

Visit NY city in this holiday is impossible, we simply don't have the time.

And if we live lang enough, we want to go on a roadtrip trough the northern states, from Michigan to Washington state.

@ Gmash, You mean the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland? Yes we will, because the heads on the Pink Floyd album Divsion Bell are there on display. We simply want to see the original thing because someone did take a second shot with slightly different heads on the same location in England.

I'm not sure of the timing, but if the race is happening when you pass through, Talladega offers a unique slice of Americana that cannot be described. It needs to be experienced. It's a reacetrack built on a WWII Airfield built on a Native American burial ground, hosts 250,000 fans all liquored up, watching stock cars racing inches apart in a pack of 43 cars reaching speeds of 230 MPH. Oh, did I mention that it is supposedly haunted.

Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum this morning.
We're in Bedford, PA now.
