Don't leave home without seeing ..............

Whatever you do Kaat stay away from the Bunny Ranch ..... it's not what it sounds like :D

LOL ... it's not that much different than the red light district in Amsterdam. When the Mrs. and I have been there we always took a stroll through in the evening. It's a hoot. :D

Where is it? :p

We're in Carson City now for the night. Crossed the Great Basin today, via the 50. Temps in Delta early this morning were 42F. What a different a day's drive makes :)

Following the 395 tomorrow, towards Ridgecrest (China Lake).

Mono Lake, CA in early morning light. Near Lee Vining. Very pretty, eh?
Some may recognize this from the inner sleeve of Pink Floyd's album Wish you were here.

Ah, "Wish You Were Here"... the song about Syd Barrett ('Shine On...'); my sophomore year in high school (perpetually stoned). After Pink Floyd's album "Animals", I started losing interest... "The Wall", heralded to be one of the great albums, was - at least, to me - commercial pap. Bob Geldof's film - even more so... the photos are great, Kaat72... sorry about my rambling... enjoy the trek, and play some King Crimson along the way... LW

That's it :p Heading for LA tomorrow.

Today in pics... The state of California is on water rantion, the third ecofriendly place we've seen driving from coast to coast gaining solar and wind energy, Los Angeles and the Hollywood sign up in the hills, we parked right in front of the Palladium for our shopping fest at Amoeba Music. Yes, we are flat broke now ;):p We ended up in LA's traffic jam in high temps, over a burned out car. We're in Bakersfield now (55,- euros for a room plus mexican dinner to make up earlier extreme expenses. LOL). It's 19.45, sun set almost an hour ago and it's still 29

Coulda swore that picture from the Observatory (at Griffith Park) was taken from the Getty Museum. Views are so similar. My pic from last year:

Okay, this was our last full day. Leaving from LAX tomorrow.
We had a blast driving from Washington DC to Los Angeles in three weeks. It took us 5,950 miles. We got the chance to meet friends, and to experience a whole lot of nature and people. Over 16 states. Ten museums and educational places. America is rich in many ways.
The USA is also very diverse. And beautiful. The kindness and enthusiasm we've met, colors and shapes we've seen. Most of the time it's there, right in front of ya. Sometimes you've got to look twice, or go around a corner or two to see it.

I realize we are very fortunate, being in a position to have this awesome vacation. It took us a lot of saving to do this, it is not something we do every year. This year was special. For one; hubby had his 50th birthday during our trip. :D I am thankful for the chances we got, and took.

Sooo... today was our last day, and we spent it on driving through Simi Valley, over the hills to Los Olivios. Passed the gate of the ranch formerly known as Neverland. A former dreamland of the king of pop, Michael Jackson.
Via 101 and coast way back to LA; we made a more than pleasant stop at Santa Barbara Beach.

Pics time!

Very good! It's nice to see records set from a flight design that pre-dates the Wright Brothers.

Thanks for sharing the link.

I went up in a hot air balloon back when I lived in Virginia. Peaceful, with no noise but the wind. The landing was a little rough, but, it was something that I absolutely had to do.

Very cool, Kaat - LW
