Dot view, sense home and themes.... I'd like to know more about it.

So first I'd like to ask this, can anyone explain how downloading a theme and applying it works? It seems sometime an applied theme don't change what it shows on the pic.. Like icons sometimes aren't skinned like the images show.

Next I'd like to ask how does the new dot view stuff work... I can't seem to make the game or the message thing work. And the app store says it let's u control the flashlight however I can't figure that out either.

And lastly what exactly is sense home and does it mean we are not getting sense 7? Sense home pretty much added what I wanted from sense 7 and that was themes!

Hello again lmao! :D

I don't know a whole lot so hopefully someone else will chime in as well.

Back in the day, HTC had a download theme service and it went away.

It looks like it's back on steroids.

When you bring it up it says recommended at the top and if you tap to the left of that you get a menu and icons are in there.

Maybe their theme samples show combinations and you have to get the pieces to put together what you like??

I have zero clue or hints about our update future.

But lol - you know me well enough to know that I look under the hood when I can and I am not above escalating questions.

So, from others asking about our missing lock screen widget control on the update, I noticed that it is there, hidden from us, in the Home app. I talked to HTC for 20 minutes about that, got some info, some brick walls.

Here's my version - more and more of Sense is being decoupled from carrier update control through the Play Store.

The apps as they present on the phone contain everything current and limit by pre-M9 models like ours. The HTC first and second tier reps aren't happy having this noticed (and I did get them holding different phones at different software levels, going through apps and settings, so we could all be very clear together what is new and what is subtracted for us - at the present).

I have no basis for the following other than the vibe of the conversation - I don't think that they're taking away features to drive us to the M9, I think that we're in a transition period because our stuff was whole-rom based rather than more modular.

If I'm right and we're in luck, we'll be seeing updates to unleash more of the newer - or just shifted - features.

Maybe the dot view case and it's flashlight description is similar to the missing lock screen widget thing - I don't have a dot view case to trigger things and try checking (although I could probably spoof it with a magnet so I may try).

In any case I have no idea why they play so coy with one of the best flashlight apps ever made.

I know that they removed it, they made it a setting, a feature and everything else - I can't keep up, it makes me crazy.

If this helps any, you can sideload this and it works in KitKat and Lollipop.

I also cannot figure out how to access the features of the dot view case. I likewise cannot find any FM radio on the phone. (Sprint Stock M8 with 5.02)

I don't use dot view but I do know if you are running the most current Viper ROM and you update HTC Sense Home from the Play store that once installed some of the Venom tweaks do not work, I ended up uninstalling the update since I rather have my Venom tweaks the way I like them.

On a side note it would be nice to be able to use this update since it looks to have some pretty cool themes and customization as far as icons and things...but like I said, I would rather have all my Venom tweaks working properly.

I almost feel like when HTC replaced my phone a few weeks ago they gave me a one that's missing stuff... HTC remote no longer works, I don't have the stock radio tuner, also the phone didn't accept my Sim card. I had to take it to sprint after HTC shipped the new one and have them give me a new Sim, which was a pain Cuz the sprint store is 30mins from my house.... My phone also take forever to charge.
Like I said I'm not sure but I feel like I was given a model that was missing stuff...HTC told me that my issues were normal, and that the remote app was closing anyways and to download peel remote. I can't help but feel like I've something is just wrong... They also tryed to sale me the quick charger thing when I said it charged slower than the old one...

Even though I believe that I checked thoroughly, we cannot discount the possibility that I sideloaded the HTC FM Radio for WifelyMon.

If this installs and works for you, I probably did -

FM_Radio.apk

Edit - replaced with correct link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=58919935&postcount=4

(And if so, I apologize for the confusion but I thought sure I checked here for the sideload.)

The remote getting removed with a pointer to peel is definitely not just you - HTC has removed their remote for everyone. Supplier problem? Support problems? Peel offered them a deal (or was the original supplier)? Again, I have no clue.

The Store comments seem to put it as some happy with Peel, some not working on their M8 phones.

I never cared for the HTC remote. If you feel the same -

Check out "Power Universal Remote Control"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=powerir.remote.control

That has a learning mode - and while the interface for the learning mode is a tad clunky, I finally have what I've never had (and I'm an early adopter of HDTV) - one remote to rule them all, including stuff that no other universal ever got right.

Has zero of the Peel razzmatazz and program / tv guide assistance but works like a champ for me.

I get an app not installed message when tryed that link.... So I'm not sure what I might need to install that. I'm not sure with the peel remote thing it makes me press every button twice to get a response
