Dots on screen

I recently recieved a notification that put 4 dots into the top of my screen. I haven't downloaded any new apps recently. I don't know what these dots are.

The notification was for a betting site. I don't have any betting apps on my phone.

Does anyone have any idea what these dots are and how to turn them off?

I have attached a screenshot to show what I mean.

Thanks

Can you make a screenshot of running apps ? You should see the culprit app if it's running in the background.

I clicked on the advert that popped up and it went to Facebook before redirecting to a betting shop promotion. I'm guessing this is something to do with Facebook, but I don't know how to turn this off.

Long press the notification and there should be a little info button that pops up. You should be able to see which app it's coming from.

Also it looks like (based on the other icons) you might be using a battery optimizer, a ram booster or both. If you are, chances are one of those are the culprit. They are mostly all known to be bad news.

Thanks for your reply. I'll try the long press if the notification pops up again.

As for the battery, I am using Battery Widget Reborn 2016. Do you think I should get rid of it?

Battery widget reborn is unlikely to be the culprit. I use it (only for a home screen widget - not for any optimization)
The 4 dots are likely from another app - as Brian706 suggested, the next time you see the ad in your notification area, long press on it - that should get you the info button to see what app is generating that
