Help DotVPN

Is anyone using this? Did a forum search and didn't see anything. How is it different from any other VPN. Thanks.

Just done a bit of googling and I can't find and independent reviews about it... I can see a chunk of reviews that don't sound all that independent and that's never a good sign.

Also worth knowing that they seem to be based in China, which means they have to store rather more information about you than you may like.

A VPN is only as secure as the people supplying it. So I think I'd say no to this one.

Thanks. I'll probably pass for now.

If you're seriously considering a VPN, I'd look into a full service VPN that doesn't keep logs. The old get what you pay for addage seems to hold especially true in this arena.

Can you give me an example. I'm still pretty new at this. Thanks.

There's a shortlist I would consider. I've been using AirVPN for a few years now. I like their policies regarding user info and the speeds and reliability are solid imo.

Here's a couple of sites with lots of info about choosing a VPN appropriate for specific needs:

(... and note the first link does include Dot on another page that shows a database listing)

Also, once you do pick one, be sure to check it out thoroughly. Some of the less reliable services leak IP addresses:

^^^

No leaks detected for ExpressVPN, which is what I use, and often recommend in China. My exit node is shown as in Tokyo, but that was it.

Myself, I would never use a Chinese VPN service.

No leaks detected on mine as well using BetternetVPN.
Exit node was Austria. [emoji23] [emoji23]

Exit nodes can be selected automatically or often you can select the location manually. I usually chose Tokyo because it seems to give the best speeds and reliability for China, or I'll chose London if I want to watch something on BBC iPlayer etc.
