Root Double check me please

It has been months since I flashed a rom on my OGEVO and I was looking for some reassurance. I upgraded to the LTEVO a month ago and finally rooted it this past weekend. My daughter inherited my OGEVO and she basically just uses it for games and other nonsense.

Before I gave it to her I made a nandroid and then performed a factory reset (i think). Anyway the rom that is on the phone is Tommy's Classic v.0.0.6 Supermagic Preview.

Other stats are:
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband: 2.15.00.0808

HBOOT-6.16.1002
RADIO-2.15.00.0000

RECOVERY
AMON RA
RA-SUPERSONIC-V2.3

So what I would like to do is flash a new rom that would give her better battery life. It's been so long since I've flashed a rom, I'm concerned I will screw something up.

Is it as simple as nandroid, wipe, flash new rom, reboot with this setup?
If not, what am I missing?
And what sense rom would you recommend for best battery life?

Hello! I recommend MikG3.11 and use these flashing instructions....Use the full wipe version
On the flashing instructions, post 3, skip step 4.
And yes, download to sd card, not in any folder, wipe all except sd card...I wipe 3 times myself...then choose "install zip from sd card", find rom and flash.
Seeing as tho you made a backup already, you need not do that again as nandroids are big.
 
Tommy's classic is already a very efficient ROM. If I were you I would keep that on there! Although supermagic is out now so I would upgrade to that. Throw on a custom kernel like aggressive freedom or underworld. Kernels are where you get the most battery savings

Would I need to wipe anything more than cache and dalvik to upgrade to Supermagic?

She has some game files she would like to preserve and I have horrible luck with TB actually backing up app files.
 
It's a completely new base, so it would be suggested to do a full wipe, but honestly you can always make a nandroid and try out the dalvik cache and cache wipe. If that doesn't work you do a full wipe and flash the rom.

Titanium won't backup some game files, so I totally understand where you are coming from with that.

Give it a try, and explain to her that of she wants to try to get better battery life she is probably going to have to start over on a few of the larger games.
 
Ok. So I wiped caches and then flashed Supermagic 0.1.0, rebooted and made sure nothing catastrophic went wrong. Seemed ok and then I flashed a pink theme for her, again wiping cache/dalvik. After reboot it got stuck on splashscreen so I had to do a battery pull. Went back into recovery wiped cache/dalvik again, rebooted normally.

She is playing around on it now. :)
