double notifications...yes i tried

before i get the usual answer, yes, I have disabled the stock sms notification. I have been using handcent since I got my phone (htc hero) and have never had an issue. I recently upgraded to 2.3.3 and since the upgrade, I have been getting double notifications for text. I have tried deleting data from the stock sms program and I have the notification turned off, yet still getting the double notification. any ideas?

Are you sure that it's the stock app that's giving you the duplicate notification?

figured it out. for some reason, youlu was still allowing notifications even after it was disabled. I just set the ringtone for silent and problem solved

I hate to reopen this thread, but it sounds like I have a similar problem and I am a Newbie. I too have gone and disabled notifications in the standard messages app, turned off everything remotely connected to notifications. I am on an ATT Inspire, Version 2.2.1. I am still getting two popup notifications. One is clearly designated from Handcent and the other popup is not designated or labeled with an App name. No matter which popup I reply to, it opens Handcent. I really only need one popup, so how do I stop the second?

1. Do you have any other SMS apps beside Handcent?

2. It could be a funcction specific to the Inspire. You may want to post your question in that sub forum.

3. If both pop ups lead to Handcent, you could always try turning off Handcent's popup and use it that way

No other SMS apps...
I will post my question in the Inspire sub forum - when I find it...
Use it without a popup? Well that is half of the point, One would want notification ability. Or at least, I want notification ability. This might be something new to test though.

I'm a little bit confused. In what I"m quoting, you indicate that you're getting two popups, yet in the post above you mention that disabling Handcent's popup would leave you with none. Are you getting two popups, or two notifications? One is what shows on the screen (approximately in the middle), and the other is in the bar at the top.

If you're getting two popups and they're not both from Handcent then there is another app responsible for the second popup. You'll have to determine what that app is and disable it. Comb through your installed apps for any messaging or popup apps. Don't overlook what's stock to your device.

Notifications and popups are 2 different things. Notifications show up in the notification bar.
