Double-tap to zoom?

csice

Lurker
Where has this gone? Is there a setting to bring it back? I just upgraded from an S2.

I also hate that I can't do it on the browser. Is there a way to make the text adjust to the zoom like there used to be? I used to be able to double-tap/pinch and the words on the page would fit width-wise on the phone, now I have to scroll all over the place. I only ask because my eyes are getting bad and I really need to zoom to be able to read stuff nowadays.

tools/Vision/Magnification gestures

it is now Triple Tap

When enabled, zoom in / out by tripel tapping screen.

while zoomed in, you can

-pan drag two or more fingers across the screen

-adjust the zoom level: pinch two or more fingers together or spread them apart

I use the Tools search feature to find that kind of thing.... lots faster than trying to go through all of the different menus.

I know about the triple tap, but it fills a different need. The double-tap was nice because all the text was right there. With triple-tap, it only magnifies what is visible on the screen at the time of zooming.

It is still there in a way, just changed a bit. Do a tap, tap and hold (don't lift your finger after the second tap). Then drag down. That will zoom the screen. I've found it works in the gallery and in Chrome.

Somehow that is not working for me. Searched the options for "tap" and "double" and no mention of zooming the screen.

Searching for "zoom" yields no results

Searching for "screen" gives a lot of things to ponder, none of which relates to zooming the display.

What I did find in "Gallery" is Pinch and Spread two fingers will zoom it right out and you can pan that image. A single touch of the 'back icon' will bring you back to a display of all the images in Gallery. Pinch and Scrunch down likewise reduces the display.

In Go SMS Pro (which I paid for) Pinch and Spread/Scrunch down works just fine IF you do it while the list of messages is showing. It does not work if a single message is being viewed.

In Chrome, I found the same exact Pinch and Spread/Scrunch down feature works there also.

So, from here, no such thing as Double Tap exists on 'my GS5'.

I don't recall turning it on anywhere. Mine is a Verizon S5. You do a double tap, but don't lift your finger after the second tap. Then without lifting your finger you swipe downward to zoom in. It works for me in the gallery, email, and chrome (unless you are on a mobile formatted web site).

I found it did that by accident when I was trying to do a double tap zoom I was use to on the S4.

Update: OK this is odd. The method I listed has worked for me since I got the phone and I confirmed it when I made the original post. Now the old double tap is working in both Gallery and Email. The tap, tap , hold method is still working in Chrome. Nothing updated on the phone and I have not changed settings. Really really odd.

Okay, had to go back and try it again.

For me, same results as my previous post. Pinch and Spread are good anywhere.

Double Tap and Hold, drag down scrolls the screen only.

As my profile shows, I am on Verizon
