Root Downgrade back to Froyo and root, or...

Ok. I want my phone rooted. I have what I think to be a leaked version of gingerbread, and its boring. So, does anybody know how I can either root from 2.3.4 or downgrade to 2.2 again to root from there? I already tried to just use unrevoked and it said "Is your firmware too new?" I thought that I might be able to just find a manual update for froyo and just name the file update.zip, but I might be crazy. Help.

This works. Follow the instructions and you will end up with a rooted 2.2, and can then put any ROM on there.

Several of us have done it, and it works!

I just followed all the way up through step 2 and I'm enjoying Cyanogenmod 7.1, Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread. Thanks!!
