Root Downgrade to get root access?

So as I understand I have to down grade before I can get root access..

2 problems:
Both the gold card guide and the down grade guide are written for windows users. I use linux/ubuntu.. I've been googling for hours trying to figure this out. Can't believe it's soo hard. But I really want root access -.-

Not sure about the Goldcard thing, could you run it in a windows emulator (Wine is it?).

Also, there's a link here, do the tools in that download work?
