Downgrading Maps

I made the changes to make the Hero work with Google Music. But that change let me download a new version of Maps (6.0.3). But this version does not work well at all on the Hero. It's very slow with quite a few force closes. I was wondering if there was any way I could downgrade Maps/Places down to a version that actually worked? I can't the last version that actually worked. Maybe v.4?

You should be able to go under Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Maps and select Clear data, then see if the new version works any better. If that doesn't work, see if the same path provides you with an Uninstall Updates option.

It's worth noting that if you're using the Maps app for the first time, it can take a few uses before it caches data. After using it a few times, it should work a lot faster.

Am I right in assuming the changes you are to the build.prop file? For example, you added the lines to trick it into believing the Sprint HTC Hero supports OpenGL ES 2.0, right?

You can either sideload an older version of Google Maps or try uninstalling the updates. Go into Settings, Applications, and then Manage Applications and find Google Maps and press the Uninstall Updates button.
