Root Downgrading to 2.0.1 and keeping data

Can someone please help, ive been searching on doing this for about 3 hours now and finally decided to ask.

I just got a new Droid from Verizon because my proximity sensor wasnt working. I want to root my old phone with 2.1 installed on it, but I want to keep the data. My sole purpose of rooting is so I can use Titanium and transfer data, including application data to my new phone. I have about 50 apps installed, and i dont want to go through and reconfigure each one of those apps.

If anyone can please help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

my understanding about that is that will wipe my phone though... right?

Yes... you will have to wipe your phone in order to get root... there is no other way if you are on 2.1...

hmmm then know of an app that will backup all of my application data without rooting?

MyBackup pro doesnt do this.

You can install SPRecovery on the OTA 2.1 now, and from there, root it. It's all in this guide:
