Help Download Mode Problem!

Im technologically backwards and having some issues with my phone, can any body help?

I have a samsung galaxy ace gt-s5830 and when i try to boot it in download mode it says "downloading...." and then does nothing. No matter how long I wait nothing changes. It just freezes on that screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?

when it says downloading... its is already in download mode(nothing else will happen).

connect the data cable when it says downloading and odin will detect your phone.

Why would you want your phone to go into download mode?it is only needed when you wanna flash a ROM via odin...
