Help Download unsuccessful

Everytime I try to download an app it goes to download and I see the download bar but upon checking notifications find Download Unsuccessful waiting for me .
To top it off my apps have updates avail that will not load either.

I never rooted the phone and had no problems up till now
Yes I turned off power and removed the battery to reset..
Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had this problem too and read through various forums -- what worked for me was, go to Menu > system settings > applications > Manage Applications. Select the Market application, then select the button to clear the Cache. Then I'd soft reset and try again.
I read thru some nightmares of multiple hard resets, and I'm glad that wasn't necessary.
