Downloading and installing apps (from torrents)?

I'm a bit confused. Does my phone have to be rooted in order to install apps downloaded from torrents? I've read through some comments on the torrents and they say you don't have to have a rooted phone. They say you just install it on your SDcard and locate it and install it. I don't have an SDcard in my phone though. Can I just put the file in the Downloads folder of my phone and install from there? I want to install JuiceDefender Ultimate.

That should work, put it on the phone, locate the .apk file and run it.

That should install it.

PS Be careful tho, you dont know who or what uploaded a torrent, check the comments to make sure its legit.

Sorry but there's nothing legit about installing a paid app by downloading it from a torrent site, and therefore obviously not paying the developer for it.
