Dream Drivers not recognized by windows

Has anyone else had issues getting windows to recognize the drivers for their phone? I'm in the process of rooting my phone and I can't get fastboot to work with my phone.

When I look under device manager on my laptop it says the drivers aren't recognized. I've tried windows vista 64 bit and windows xp 32 bit.

Tried right-clicking the device, selecting "Update driver" and telling it to look in \Program Files\HTC\HTC Drivers\Driver files\<OS-specfic folder>?

I ended up switching to a different windows computer(vista instead of server 2008) and apparently that made the difference. It connected right away and I finished rooting.
