Help Droid 2 freezes when typing anywhere.

Lezzer7

Lurker
I got the new software update quite a while ago, like a few weeks. My phone just out of nowhere started having this problem. When I'm typing anything, whether texting, on Facebook, or on the Browser, my phone will freeze. I'll have to press the Home key to get out of it, and then my phone won't work right until I restart it. The word suggestion ribbon from the texting stays on the screen even if I'm I closed out of the app. Then, the touch screen won't work until I restart my phone.
Earlier my phone was having a similar problem, but less severe. When I was texting, it would freeze, and I'd have to return to home and back to the text message. I fixed that problem by turning off Word Prediction in the settings. Now the problem's back on steroids. I've adjusted settings, uninstalled apps, (ATK) and done everything I can think of but clear Cache, or wipe my phone, neither of which I really want to do.
If you could give suggestions to fix the problem, it would be much appreciated.

download and install another keyboard app to see if its just the software or something hardware related....

I just downloaded the Go Keyboard and the problem has been resolved completely. My experience was essentially identical to the original poster.

I installed GO Keyboard, and while it has some problems of its own, it fixed the major problem. I'll look for a better keyboard app. This resolved the problem, and I thank you very much for the help!

Installed TouchPal Keyboard, and I am very happy with it! I like it much better than GO Keyboard. I also recommend Smartkeyboard and Better Keyboard

Yeah, the Go Keyboard isn't all that great. I was just at wit's end with this issue and delighted that anything made it stop. I'll try the other keyboards you suggested. Thanks!

I tried the TouchPal keyboard on my DROID 2 Global, and it didn't seem to help. Both text and email freeze up after I've typed a couple of words, then the message disappears. Any other ideas? (Mine has a slide-out keyboard.)

Having the same issue. Using the physical keyboard, in the middle of the text and it just . . . goes away. As with Lezzer7, The word suggestion ribbon from the texting stays on the screen even if I'm closed out of the app.
Then, typically the screen is sluggish, or just locks up, no longer accepting touch input. Have to pop the battery to start over, and then it just seems to happen all over again in an hour or so.

Have found this advice:
Go to Settings -> Applications
Touch "Manage Applications"
Click the "All" tab up top.
Scroll down and find "Multi-touch Keyboard" and touch it.
Under Storage, click "Clear Data"
Restart the phone.

Gonna try this and see what happens.

Update: Seems to have cleared up my problem - 24 hours and counting.

Oregonian's advice solved the problem I was having. Hasn't been 24 hrs yet, but this worked while nothing the Motorola helpdesk people suggested did.

The problem has nothing to do with clearing data. You need to uncheck "Next Word Prediction."

I've tried all of the above to no avail. The problem is i cant press sections of the keyboard. Like i cant press Y or M. I hope it isn't the digitizer. I dont want to spend a load on this phone.
