Help Droid 2 Global's Battery Life problems

I also recently got the D2G. I charge it fully. I have bt, wifi and gps set to off. I have a corporate email and gmail. With the phone sitting on my desk, and merely occasional checking of email or texting it lasts about 3-4 hours. It's the worst phone I've ever used from that standpoint. I never had to turn any of these things off with my BB and it lasted all day with pretty significant use. Any help (with instructions and app names) would be appreciated.

root it with z4root, and put setcpu on it. I get about 8-9 hours this way, but I am still taking it back. I need 12 hours. Yesterday I had 40 min of calls, 15 txt, and read email (did not respond) about 6x. phone was at 20% at 10 hours. If I travel and really use it, like 60 min of calls, plus actually read and respond to every email, then get on a plane to get to next place, I need it to go 7am to 9pm. I can get the bigger battery or a second battery, but don't believe I should have to do this. My droid 1, while much slower and less responsive can go 16+ hours. I can trade speed for battery life.

You could always underclock your CPU to 1GHz, or even 800MHz. As long as most of the bloatware is gone, the phone is still REALLY snappy at these speeds.

What utility do you use to underclock it? Although - it seems like such a waste to underclock it. Why did I buy this thing in the first place if I have to mess with it to such a degree just to get it to limp by compared to what it's designed to do for me. It's a global phone - so clearly designed with a business users in mind - and that's exactly where it falls desperately short. This thing sucks. What's more - I have set it to CDMA only many times and the damn thing keeps reverting back to Global. What a POS. I can't wait for the Merge. Maybe HTC will get it right.

I've been having the same issue, I tend to play alot or games on it, and I turn everything down... it's set to clock at 300 mhz with the screen off and stock with the screen on, most times when playing games I turn the screen all the way down, and I always have BT Wifi and GPS off unless it's in my car dock.

Not only does this phone get ridiculously hot, like hard to hold, droid OC says upwards of 118 F but it eats the battery...

I can charge it full, put it in my pocket, turn everything off, walk into work and an hour later it will have 15% battery. I have no idea what is causing this and I'm hoping I just got a faulty model as my wifes phone doesn't do this at all.

I've just tried some of the things suggested here (though I've turned it to CDMA three other times and it keeps turning itself back.) and I'll see how it goes.

I absolutely love this phone, as a business owner who relies on the internet to do my job this phone is perfect, sure the email isn't as good as my storm was, etc etc, but it is passable (though for some reason I only get a vibrate for emails and nothing else even though pure is set to notify me) problem is if I can't get more than three hours of use then it's no good.

You have something wrong, and these two things are likely related. The phone should not get so hot it is hard to hold, under any circumstances, and a battery that goes from full to 15% in 1 hour indicates something is defective. Take your phone back for a replacement, and ask them to replace the battery, too.

Your phone is bad.

Yeah I thought so... is titanium backup the best utility? kinda makes me with there was something like BB desktop.

I assume I need to unroot my phone before I take it back right?

I got the Droid 2 Global immediately when it was released and had poor battery life immediately, despite a Seidio Extended battery (2800 mAhr), a brand I have used and trusted for years. I also note that when synching Email (which I have set for once per hour), the phone would heat up and the battery percent remaining would drop precipitously. I finally had the phone replaced 2 weeks ago with resolution of the problem. Battery life is twice as long with the new phone; Still not great, but much better. Only charging at night now.

I know it has been a while since anyone has posted here, but I just bought a D2G from an individual seller because I am traveling overseas and wanted a global phone.

I read about the battery issue before I bought, but thought it was the same "issue" people were reporting about the Droid 1. I was wrong. I got the phone, charged it and then used it. Within 30 minutes, the battery went to about 20%

Well, don't ask me where I heard this, but I decided to drain the battery completely. Until the phone literally shuts down and won't turn on. I then fully charged it.

Well it seems a lot better now. I went out last night at 7 PM, used the phone until after midnight. I intentionally did not charge it and now at 9 AM it is still about 3/4.

Granted as phones go, that isnt great, but it's not bad.

One difference I noticed was when I first charged the phone it went to 99% (maybe it said 100% I dont remember) but still said "charging" even though I left it for hours afterwards. After I drained and then re-charged it said 100% Charged (or Fully Charged...I have a bad memory)

BT, GPS, Auto Brightness, etc. all turned on. I did have the battery setting set to "Maximum battery saver". I just changed it to "Performance mode" just now to see if that really affects it.

Anyway, so far so good. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

FYI, Verizon was nice enough to send me a new battery which I'll get next week. They werent supposed to since I bought it from a private seller, but that's why Big Red is #1.

Update:

So the phone has been unplugged for 19 hrs and 4 mins and is at 20%. This includes 30 minutes of perma hold to an airline, 10 min call to Verizonwireless not to mentioned browsing and other regular calls.

It's no Blackberry battery wise, but much better. This makes the phone much better than my droid 1 when you compare performance including battery life.

I have experienced a drastic improvement in battery life. I usually charge my phone on the dock station at work everyday no big deal. I installed Launcher Pro Plus on Monday, I noticed Tuesday when I put it on the dock that the battery was over 3/4 full, but charged it anyway. I skipped charging it yesterday, used the phone in a normal fashion (phone calls/texting/pulse updates/weather...) I do NOT have an extended battery, I used blue tooth in the car and have had WIFI on to download the 8 apps needing updating this morning, yes I turn both of those off when not in use, but the GPS is always on. Fast forward to right now and I am showing 5 % battery life after 1day, 19hours, 5mins. That's over 43 hours and not just stand by use!
I took some images of screen shots, but I am a reader, not a poster so I can't post with links or images. I put up some images and a short blurry video proof on my photobucket account, find it under krcossin

One tip that seems to work for me is using the battery manager. You can set up the phone to automatically go into night setback mode which turns off a lot of functions that are running in the background. This seems to work well for me. I charge my phone every night and it lasts through most of the next day. The only time it runs low quickly is if I am using the picture apps, camera, etc. Hope this is helpful
