Droid 2 just died, need new phone recommendation

My Droid 2 global got soaked today and as far as I can tell is dead (the battery may just be fried seeing as I can get the moto screen to come up, and the only water indicator that was set off was the one on the battery. Going to verizon tomorrow to have them take a look)

If it is dead then I'm going to have to get a new phone, which I'm not entirely thrilled about (I've been wanting to switch to Windows phone to see what it's like, and have been sitting on my upgrade for a yr now waiting for Verizon to get a decent device but alas...).

Seems like the choice right now is between the Galaxy Nexus and the Razr Maxx, both of which will likely be outclassed by the S3 whenever it gets released in the next month or so (or so rumors say).

Question is, what to do?

I'm personally tired of Blur, and would love to just have a straight google-experience phone. The connectivity issues that have been reported with the Nexus have me concerned though. Battery life isn't a huge problem for me since my phone spends most of its day hooked up to my computer, but bad signal quality would kinda be a deal-breaker for me.

Is the issue still there or has it been resolved through firmware / whatever else (can be hard to tell from reviews that span over several months)?

Also, there is no real word on the S3 is there? I'm pretty wary of buying a 6 month old phone as it is, especially if something is going to be coming out in the next couple of weeks. I don't understand why Verizon is so bad at getting decent handsets, but it is what it is.

So yeah...I'm rambling...

Galaxy Nexus vs. Razr Max I guess is the basic question (followed by a large sigh)

Razr maxx. Run from the nexus if you like having a reliable connection to voice and data.

You could also just buy a cheap phone on Craigslist to hold you over until something new comes ouy

It depends on where you live honestly. If you live in a strong signal area, then the signal problems of the nexus won't affect you. But no one will deny that the razr has better radios, and better battery with the maxx. I have the nexus and love it, but I live in a strong signal area.

If you like the physical keyboard, go with the Droid 4. Otherwise, the Maxx is the best out there on Verizon right now and Blur is really no where near as bad as it used to be (My wife has a Razr and Blur is actually useful for her.) And always remember, no matter what you buy today, it will always be outclassed before you get more than 6 months along anyways so at least you know the Maxx is supported and top of the line for probably the length of your re-up.

My signal is fine unless I am inside a steel building to be honest. Of course my office is a steel building, so do the math. :p I love my Nexus though. Maybe give the Nexus a try, and see how the signal is for you?

I live in Chicago, and don't usually have signal issues with my current phone except in my office building, but honestly nobody where I work has any service on any carrier so that's not a fair judgement

I was considering the razr max but then I saw this review on youtube about the pixelization and resolution. Is this true or just a bad review?

Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx Review - YouTube

The RAZR display has a pixel density of 256 dpi. While it's about 20% less than the nexus and the rezound, anybody who talks about it being pixeliated is full of it. The screen on the RAZR is excellent, it's just but quite as some other screens out there.

Meh, I wanted to get the Razr Maxx but when I went into the store to play with it, I absolutely hated the screen. The Nexus and Rezound looked so much better. I'm leaning towards playing roulette and getting the Nexus. Hopefully I get a good one without all the signal/reception issues. I don't mind throwing the Mugen extended battery on it, so battery is not an issue.

Another thing, I live in LA. My reception has ALWAYS been great. I mean AWESOME. Verizon had never let me down in that area. At work, I was the only one who could get reception inside the building and it was strong enough to watch YouTube. Now with the nexus I get 3g if I'm lucky. I get dropped calls regularly and when I send a text I have to wait and make sure it sends because I frequently get message failed notifications. But I have to admit, if I'm out in an open area I do get decent reception

Text rendering on the Razr screen, to my eye, looks poor. There's a certain distortion around the characters. Some people either don't see it or don't care about it. It's the only reason I don't own a Maxx. I'm holding out for the rumored HD Razr (or maybe a Verizon SGIII if somehow it looks better in person).

EDIT: Back to the original question. If battery life isn't important, maybe the standard Razr? I don't see the point of the Maxx if battery life isn't really a concern. The Rezound is nice other than battery life, so maybe that? However, ff I had to upgrade right now I'd gamble on the GNex and hope I don't see these connectivity and microphone issues people keep complaining about.

i had both the nexus and maxx at one point, the screen on the maxx isnt as nice as the nexus, but it isnt bad either!

there are complaints that the gorilla glass isnt gorilla glass and is pretty weak, i dont know, i dont try to put my phone through boot camp. but both phones are great, and both have their weaknesses. my razr had more than my gnex, so i went back to gnex.
