@lclemens: patience man, once its rooted, we'll be able to take all that junk out.
I got my D2 the day it came out knowing full well the advantages of rooting from friends who have the original Droid. I'm surely anxiously awaiting the root since the first thing I'm doing is uninstalling the bloatware. Plus I'm hoping we'll get better power management.

Power management is the very top concern for me... I have yet to get a true full day out of the phone, even with GPS off and infrequent use. I've never seen a battery drain this fast, its almost a joke![]()
Calibrate the phone to the battery. Run the phone down once or twice to the point it shuts off and fully recharge it. Otherwise you'll have inaccurate battery use.Power management is the very top concern for me... I have yet to get a true full day out of the phone, even with GPS off and infrequent use. I keep GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi off all day long. Not a big deal for me since I don't have a genuine use for any of them, and if I need navigation or WiFi I can always turn them on in a jiffy.
That helped a bit.
I then turned off "Background data" which I only turn back on to surf the App Market since that's the only thing so far has asked me to turn it back on which I do for the time I need it.
My battery life has greatly improved since first getting it, but I def would love to see it rooted so that I can clean it up. I need ANDROID 2.2 for DUMMIES so that I know how to unleash the full potential of my DROID 2.

ThanksSomething I did to help with the battery was to set the screen to timeout after 30 seconds, instead of the default minute. It seemed to help a lot...
Could you help me with how to get to battery settings to adjust things like this please?
How do I turn off background data, so my phone isn't constantly connected to the Internet (will this affect my Email/Text Message updates?)
Settings -> Data Manager -> Data Delivery -> Bakcground Data.
I don't think it affected e-mail, definitely didn't affect SMS/MMS.
It'll turn back on for the App Market, after which I usually turn it back off.
heres a video tutorial on how to root the droid 2 on the new november 2 2010 update. This will not delete any apps and is so quick and gives you root, busybox (idk either), and superuser
