droid 4 vs Razr Maxx

double s

Newbie
Hi All,

Always trolling on here (in a good way) and could use some advice from the masses.

UP for renewal, currently have Droid X (Verizon network)

Looking at Droid 4 vs Razr Maxx

Here's my profile for phone usage

* For business both calls and emails
* Apps to keep my kids amused in stores and car rides
* Movies again for kids
* MP3 player in the gym

I do alot of emails and am liking the physical qwerty of the 4, not against the on screen keyboard but am liking the Razr for battery longevity and also the fact I can access the battery in case of emergencies.

Advise/comments always welcomed.

Make it a Great Day!

Hi There. I was in the same boat as you. From my understanding, the phones are identical except for two differences:

1) Droid 4 has a slide out qwerty keyboard. Razr Maxx does not.
2) Razr Maxx has a SIGNIFICANTLY larger batery capacity vs any other current phone

That being said, for me, having an actual keyboard was of huge importance (coming from a Blackberry). The Droid 4 battery is fine (when compared to any other 4G phone), but man I wish they had put that Razr Maxx battery into the Droid 4. For me, having a physical keyboard was more important than having a high-capacity battery.

Other than those two differences, the phones are identical.

PS - i think the Razr Maxx has a slightly larger screen.

Hi Double S

Since you've had the DX then I would go with the Razr Maxx. If you've enjoyed the DX then you'll like the Maxx. Imagine all the things you did with your DX, then imagine having more time doing them because of the better battery. Plus, tasks run faster with the Maxx's better processor.

Thx for the quick response.

Yes Razr has a bigger screen and is brighter but this doesn't bother me. Also the Droid 4 is $100 less but my biggest thing is the fact I cannot replace the battery. On my X, I had a faulty battery about 6 months in, granted they sent me a new new one but of course Murphy's law, I buy the Droid 4 and something happens after the 1 yr warranty is up....

Would loveto hear some other reviews/comments

I hear ya Double S. I was so hung up on an internal battery. Afterall, that was one of the biggest reasons I trashed Apple for so long. With my Blackberry, I could communicate during the end of days becasue I had 4 batteries to swap in and out. I decided that I wanted a Droid over an iPhone and had to give in. I couldn't see spending an extra $100 for the Maxx. But I am worried about exactly what you bring up. Then I just tell myself that there are millions in the same baot with an iPhone.

As for the processor, xmr405o indicated that the Maxx has a faster processor. I'm not sure if he meant faster than the DX or faster than the Droid 4, but the Droid 4 and Razr Maxx have identical processors.

Droid 4
- qwerty keyboard + virtual keyboard
- internal battery
- 0.3" smaller screen

Razr Maxx
- virtual keyboard only
- removable battery (twice the capacity as any other)
- 0.3" bigger screen

Those are the differences. Everything else is identical.

Also following this thread now. I'm startin to wonder myself if I should return the D4 for a Maxx :( ...if only I could get used to and enjoy screen typing...

Oops. :o Yes, I was comparing the DX the OP has now vs the Razr maxx. Not the D4 and Maxx.

I thought the D4 and Maxx had non removable batteries? However, just because you can't remove it, doesn't mean it can't be replaced by Moto if it goes bad. Technically you can remove the battery but I believe that'll void the warranty if you do it yourself. I can be wrong but from what I've heard that is the case for both the D4 and Droid Razr series.

And Kboy, I wouldn't doubt your purchase. You bought the D4 for it's keyboard so for your necessary requirements, you've made a great choice in phones. The D4 is definitely the best out of the bunch of KB phones out on Verizon.

One more thing to the OP, if you shop around, I bet you'll find better prices on the D4 and Maxx. Since you are up for renewal, you have that freedom to go buy your phone anywhere.

Ahh decisions decisions. Somebody brought up a great point that the Iphone has non removable battery and I haven't heard anything about issues. The other big thing I like over Iphone is the expandable memory. There are times when I have 6-8 1 gig movies stored for my kids.......

SPeed had been brought up a few times, I am actually quite happy with my Droid X speed so either phone I get will be an upgraded treat. I am also still in a 3G area with a "supposed upgrade to 4G by year end)

I am starting to sway towards the Droid 4 but of course keep the comments coming.
