Droid 4 Vs Razr: The Beginning

Besides my whining about the fixed battery, the big issue I'm having with the Razr- and no confimation from VZW that it will be fixed in the update: About 90% of the time, the Razr freezes and then reboots in HDMI mode. This happens with lapdock as well.

As a result, comparing to the Droid 4. Besides the Razr's bigger display and easy access card slot (nice), the Droid 4 still might come up trumps- IF it has amoled display tech like Razr.

1. Fits better in hand (same size as D3)
2. World phone
3. Cover is designed to be removed and there will be an extended battery option (the battery is not fixed and the card slots are behind the cover).
4. Keyboard on D3 works great for emulators, so expect same here.
5. If specs correct, working FM radio function

The key is an having extended battery options and flaky HDMI on Razr, but I will stay with the Razr if not same display tech as Razr. Who knows, maybe the D4 has same HDMI problems.

Should be released next week.

Unless it's a super mission critical thing that stops you from using the phone altogether, I think including software bugs in a pro/con list for a phone isn't important. They will be fixed sooner or later. They are not a reason to ditch a phone for another one in my opinion. The Droid 4 is going to come with bugs just like every other phone.

It is incredibly easy to get stuck in the "grass is always greener" mentality when it comes to smartphones, it has happened to me quite a few times. You notice the handful of things that are buggy but you don't notice the millions of things that could go wrong but don't. The next phone might have stuff wrong with it that you never would have thought about because of how reliable it was on the previous phone.

I do expect the Droid 4 to be a solid phone however. I think the Droid 4 and Droid Razr will have the same relationship as the Droid 2 and Droid X of last year; good, comparable phones with the primary difference being the keyboard option and screen size.

True dat, but a lack of articulation about the HDMI issue is a piggy back to the fixed battery for me.

Seems too good to be true the D4 will have same display tech as the Razr.

Not sure but the specs I've seen on the d4 says its way wider than the d3 and a little wider than the razr. That doesn't really appeal to me. Other than that, all the points you made i agree with.

Where did you see the dimension specs?

The info I read stated about same size. Moto would be nuts. I think it its not as wide or wider, else they would have set the slots in the same place. They are inside and near the camera assembly.

Here's one place but remember these aren't official because I've seen some articles say 67mm too or 2.63 inches. Thats not too bad but still not as good as the d3.

Motorola DROID 4 specs

Phonearena said it was 2.8 inches wide and i was like. Whaaaaat! I hope they are wrong.

I dont have the HDMI issues that you have. I have tried to simulate the issue but have yet to have my device reboot using HDMI or lapdock ( I am typing this post on the lapdock ) so maybe your device is faulty. As far as screen tech on the Droid 4 all indications are that its an LCD similar to the one on the Atrix 2.
