Root Droid and Droid X

Bankswood

Guys, I'm a Droid X owner and I have done my fair share of rooting and ROM flashing on my phone. My neighbor has a Droid that has always been unstable and buggy. The phone was owned by her company so she could not root it. Well she has now left the company and they gave her the phone and it has become my job to root it and tweak it. I did a preliminary seach here for rooting but didn't see anything simple. Is there a one click root method or something like Z4Root which does not even require a computer?

Hopefully that worked for you. I cant think of any method for the original droid that would be any worse than what you droid x owners have to go through.

I haven't rooted the phone yet but the one Click method is very similar to the way I originally rooted. We now have a very simple rooting method for the Droid X. It's called Z4Root. You download it just like an app and it will root the phone without using a PC.

thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll have some questions down the road.

Check the current version you are running. If the phone is on 2.2.1 z4root will not work unless something has changed recently. The exploit it used was supposedly closed in the latest OTA update.

Actually this is incorrect. I honestly don't know what changed that made z4root not work for some (as I've heard some have had it work), but anyways z4root, super one click and soup or root ALL use the same exploit, the rageagainstthecatge-arm5.bin file created by Sebastian Kramer. All these apps have just automated the entry of the commands to manually apply it. In fact here is the manual method of applying it (for the A855 Droid 1):

which is reported to still work.

good luck
