Help droid and gmail

i'm sooo new to smartphones...droid is my first (yeah, running before i can walk!).
need a lot of help...can't even figure out how to open attachments on my gmail with the droid. part of the reason i wanted a smartphone was to read ALL of my emails on the go...

Open gmail on phone and scroll down an click on preview. Make sure to download the require programs to open up the attachments. I will recommend to download the Documents To Go free version on the app store as a viewer of Word/Excel/PPS and PDF files. If you need to edit this files then it would cost 30.00 to use full version but its a great program that's been out for a very long time.
