Help Droid-droid both overseas

First time post - hard to find where to post...
I am in Ecuador. How can I use my US based Verizon HTC Incredible 2 Global to call another phone here in Ecuador while I am also here without having to pay $2.89/minute, other than Skype with WiFi connection. I have data turned off to avoid extreme charges.

Also, if it will not be easy for me to find this thread after I log off how can I easily find it?

I don't know much about global but can't you buy a local SIM card and get a better price?

The Quick Links drop down near the top of the page can take you to all your threads.
 
Call Verizon, get whatever code you need to unlock the SIM. Then go get a prepaid SIM from whatever your preferred network is down there and pop it in. Change your preferred network settings on your phone to GSM. Not sure if it will change your number it not. Probably will
