Droid Freezes (NOT when Plugged in)

I bought a *supposedly* brand new Moto Droid via craigslist. The condition was perfect, so I had no reason to doubt the owner. After a cursory review, all seemed well, so money/phone changed hands and off I went.

However, the phone appears to be faulty. It freezes often, and I figured that I'm out the moola that I passed on. But, I do note that the freezing never seems to occur when plugged in, so I'm wondering if my battery is simply defective, or whether the USB connection provides a slightly higher voltage, and whatever part is marginally working at unplugged voltage levels works fine when the voltage is higher.

Bottom line: I'm tempted to go buy a new battery to see if that solves my problem, but I was hoping to get some feedback first to see if it might be worth opening my wallet yet again on something that may/may not work.

Thanks,
Mike

If you do go the battery route, make certain you get an OEM battery and NOT a cheap imitation that does not say Motorola on it.

Thanks for the pointer. Since I can pick up a brand spanking new OEM battery for less than $5 from Amazon's marketplace, I don't see any reason to go any other route. Further, realizing how reasonably priced this is, it doesn't make any sense not to give it a whirl to see if I can yet salvage my $150 investment.

Many thanks! :D
