Help droid headache

[Joe Movement]

I wanted to connect (sync) my email to my phone so that I can have immediate contact with important emails. I tried to connect, but I keeping getting a message that...."my usernane and password do not match. Please try again"...
I wore out myself trying again; I even changed my password, but I get the same message.
Is this something I have to take up with google. Or is there a simple fix for this?

You can sign into your gmail with no issues on your computer?
Do you have 2-step verification with gmail?
If so, the password you enter in your phone is an app specific password and not your normal one, thus the error.
