Droid in China

Newbie
i'm just a Droid user from china, i'd like to share something with u guys.
Jan 15th,2011 is a special day for us Chinese users, cuz we heard about droid will be updated from rom 2.1 to 2.2. We've been looking forward to upgrating our xt702 (AKA DROID) to rom 2.2 like for 8 months. But now, we all know we got fooled. Still hoping Moto will keep their promise that they will put out official rom 2.2 in Q1。
Droid is the most popular Android cell in China. I'm not sure how much it is in U.S.A., it is very expensive in China, which is, like 4500 yuan when it just got in China, almost 680 bucks.
I got several friends in America, and they told me they paid 199 dollars(about 1320 yuan) for iphone 4. That's a dream in China, cuz the price sucks in my country, that one set of iphone 4 introduced by our mobile phone company is worth above 7000yuan, about 1060 dollars.Yah, can u believe that?

that price your friends paid was for a 2 year contract agreement. to buy it out right would be a lot more.

Those prices are with a 2 year contract. Here, you can get a iPhone 4 with 8000k (about $186) with a post paid plan.

I really don't like buying phones in China or made in China (they ship them here) because mostly are "shanzai" (counterfeit) phones. But now most companies outsource the assembly in China because it's cheaper.

In the Philippines China phones are a big hit.

I know what u mean. Back in China here, the number 7000 yuan, namely 1060 dollars i said, is the price with a contract agreement, which makes us sad...

I can get what u wanna say, yah, you mean "shan zhai" phones. Actually, we do have a lot of these stuff. In China, IT stuff ain't as cheap as you think, maybe you can afford them because of the exchange rate between usd & cny, but a lot of chinese can't afford them, so, here "Shan zhai" come, which are cheaper, and just like well-known brands. In China, the most popular cellphone brand is Nokia, htc and moto come next and third. Even though many companies outsource here, still, they sell their things to us at very high prices. you know DELL alienware m17x updated-1? The price in your country is about 1500 dollars, right? But in China, it's about 6000 dollars, even tariff included, which is way more expensive.

I'm from the Philippines. Shan zai phones are the most popular here because it's cheaper and like you it is very expensive compared in the States. So yeah, alot of people go for that. Popular brand is Nokia too or "Nckia" XD

I don't really know it isn't cheaper there since that's the place where it is manufactured.

Hah,hah,i've heard "Nckia",really sharp, XD. i know it's hard to believe the fact that many things are made in China but not cheap in China. But that's just the way it is. And i need to point out when i say "many things", i refer to the hi-tech things. Chinese only do manufacturing work, the core parts are still got in foreign companies. High prices are fixed based on the hi-tech parts, and by the companies, not by Chinese manufacturers.
