Help Droid Incredible Optical Joystick Emits Red Light

Hi everyone,

I've read the other optical joystick forums and this comment hasn't been made as far as I can see. I've also googled various phrases related to my question and it doesn't seem to have a direct answer. I want to know if the red light I'm seeing from my optical joystick on my Incredible is similar to the red light from an optical mouse. I notice it in the dark when the phone's screen is on. I figure it probably has something to do with the fingerprint algorithm tracking technology, but I'm asking because I have a seriously creepy brother who is also quite tech-savvy and might have altered/imbedded something in my phone. So if the red light is part of the factory-made optical joystick, please say so and put my mind at ease...

Thanks!
Pyra

It may be your creepy brother, because i have never seen an incredibles oj let out any light. Even in the darkest of places. Mine certainly never has.

I've also never seen my incredible emit a red light from the optical trackpad....

That being said, if you've ever taken a HTC incredible apart (I have), you would see that it would be *impossible* to fit any other electronics in there. The parts are precision soldered with a computerized robot, and the body is then molded around the motherboard. The phone is designed to be as slim as possible, with no extra space for anything else. No matter how tech savvy you think your brother is, he couldn't solder anything onto the motherboard and have it draw any power without shorting out the entire phone.

Thanks for your response. I'm glad to hear there's no space for anything else...but I remain confused. Maybe at the right angle I'm seeing something inside the phone? Plus, it could be a software modification? If he rooted the phone, I'd know, right? There's no way to "fake" a factory reset?

It may be the light from the soft keys reflecting off the red interior of the phone, and leaking from arround the oj. Thats my best guess.

If it were rooted, you would see the "superuser" or the "superSU" app in your application list.

You could perform a factory reset yourself to make sure, or run a RUU (ROM update utility) to be absolutely positive. Let me know, and I'll link you to one.

I did a factory reset and he hasn't physically handled the phone since (he lives far away). He didn't handle the phone when we were in the same area, either, but I can't guarantee that. I know it sounds very odd, but he has done something similar in the past. Anyway, what would the link you mention do?

It would completely reinstall the OS and wipe the phone... Would be like the day you bought it.
