Help Droid MAXX driving mode disables google maps sounds

Droid MAXX
KitKat 4.4

When my Droid MAXX goes into driving mode (even after I've dismissed it with "I'm not driving") it prevents any apps from making noise. It still uses alert sounds for notifications, but apps will not send noise through the phone whether it's plugged into my car's USB port or not (the car is a 2013 Prius C, if that makes a difference at all).

They are linked via Bluetooth, but even before that, I couldn't get any noise to come through unless I was making a call. This wouldn't be a huge problem, but for the fact that not even Google Maps can get through, so I can't navigate to a place without having someone tell me what the screen says or looking at the screen myself (which is exactly what I don't want to be doing, because it's illegal in my state). Is there any way around this? I've combed through the settings, but driving mode seems to be the only thing I have no control over.

I personally have not seen this, though I rarely use Google Maps. But - can you not just go into the Assist app and turn off driving assist?

I went into Assist, completely disabled Driving mode from the settings menu, and started Google Maps, but the same thing happens: the vocal directions fade to silent the second that I start the car.

Ok, so it's not the Assist app - it's probably the Bluetooth connection to the car.

In settings->bluetooth, tap the settings icon next to the setting for your car. (It's three horizontal lines that look like slider controls.) Is there a setting in there for "Media audio"? If so, and if you uncheck that, can you then hear the directions from Google Maps?

That did it, thank you so much! This has been bothering me for ages.
