Help Droid Mic Problem - Works in speaker phone, not regular, not voice search, etc.

So heres a random problem that started happening recently... I used to be able to reboot my phone and it would work fine again, now I'm SOL.

So my mic doesn't work when I make/recieve calls... unless I turn on speakerphone. No one can hear me unless its in speaker mode.

If I do a voice search, voice record, etc, nothing happens.

The only way I can talk on my phone is if I'm on speaker phone.

I've rebooted, tried inserting headphones into the headset jack and removing, etc. I guess my final step is to factory reset and see if that fixes it.

Are there any known solutions? I did NOT change any configuration. Oh, and I should throw out there, that once in a blue moon it DOES work on regular phone. This is totally random.

i had this problem with a refurb. i got no answer on a fix they just pull a new droid off the shelf and dent me on myway

Update to this:

Its a short.

It finally died completely and now everyone hears a BUZZ when I answer. Fail.

I had this problem when I used my google search and I would speak something into the phone but it wouldn't pick up any sound from my voice. The only thing that worked for me was just erasing everything on the phone. That should do the trick. Sucks cause you have to redownload everything again.

I've been living with the same condition on my Motorola Droid. If the speaker is on, I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. If the speaker is off, then they can hear me, but I can't hear them. Great excuse for not having extended conversations!

I tried a bluetooth headset, and I was able to use that to have normal conversations, everyone could hear fine.

I even tried a hardware fix, where the top of the phone is removed and a piece of paper inserted under a metal strip, under the assumption that there noise cancelation was being overdone. That didn't work.
