Root Droid Pro Z4root - SU access for apps

So i rooted my phone (Pro) with Z4root id guess about a month ago. Its been working just fine.

I installed Barnacle from the market and it was working just fine (a couple weeks ago). So i havnt used it for a couple weeks and I try to start barnacle today and I get this error message after clicking "start":

"Root Access - Barnacle requires "su" to access the hardware! Please, make sure you have root access"

I opened SU and barnacle was listed in there. So i decided to remove it and try adding it back seeing if that might do the trick. Well now I cant figure out how to reallow permissions for Barnacle.

I uninstalled barnacle and reinstalled it from the market, and it never asked me if i wanted to allow permission or anything like that (i think it did the first time).

The only thing that has changed (I think) on my phone was that Verizon sent an update and now im on kernal version: 2.6.32.9

Would that effect Z4root or anything?

Problem:

Just tried using my screen capture app as well.

it just comes up with: "Root Access is not obtained. Is your phone rooted?"

So i guess its not just a problem with Barnacle and theres and issue with Z4root?

Im thinking the VZ update killed Z4root. When I try to open the Z4 app it suddenly fails and closes. I havnt found anyone else having similar issues tho.

I'm having the exact same problem. SetCPU no longer has root access, z4 cant re-run the root, all this happened after the VZW update a few days ago.

I've reinstalled Z4, and it now hangs or crashes and cannot get root again. My file browser and setcpu are dead in the water now.

Is there another way to root the pro?

z4 will not work after applying the new update regardless of if you were rooted when you installed the update. But if you were rooted when you installed the new update, it's very likely that you'll experience problems with your phone. Many people who didn't unroot before updating have had a wide variety of issues, and they've had to do a SBF and then reinstall the latest update. Everything was fine for them after that.

aRoot works for rooting the phone after the update is applied:

Download aRoot!

I had to install the latest Motorola USB drivers found here in order for it to work properly:

USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA

After installing those (if you're not already up to date), connect your phone to your PC in "Charge Only" mode, extract the aRoot files, double click on aRoot.bat, watch it do it's thing, your phone will reboot, and then you're rooted.

As of right now, there's no one click program that you can install on the Pro to root it after the update. aRoot is one click, but you have to be connected to a computer to do it. Others have also had success with SuperOneClick for rooting the new update, which is done in a similar manner to aRoot by having to be connected to a computer.

Thanks for the info :)

My friend told me to check out Universal AndRoot, but i havnt looked into it to see if it will work on the Pro.

I did and neither has worked for me. It's not my first time I'm rooting a phone. I just can't figure out what is wrong.

Did you update to latest Motorola USB drivers? aRoot didn't work for me until I did that, and many have reported that it wasn't working for them either until updating them.

I have attempted the process multiple times. I have verified that I have most recent moto drivers (installed several times) and then opened aroot on my computer and double clicked on the bat file and it stated it was going through the process but nothing happens with the phone. Am I expose to put the aroot file on my phone? Any help would be great!

I just tried rooting with Aroot. Ran the .exe file

It ran and restarted my phone. (attached screen shot of what it said).

I didnt see any SU icon after reboot. I tried running barnacle and it said i need "SU access". So i guess its not working for me either.

aRoot worked for me..... :)

After the resent system update the droid pro was not able to be re rooted via z4 root. The superuser icon was there but permissions weren't being granted.

A user in a previous post noted that aRoot is working. This may be true. I personally have not tested it. However, for those of you who want a much easier way of rooting with no computer required, download Gingerbreak v1.2

This is a one button root used to root some phones with gingerbread and all phones running froyo.

Although I do not have a link to post. The easiest way if obtaining this program is to go to 4shared.com - free file sharing and storage and dl it.

Enjoy.

Is there anything tricky about using this app? Will it also unroot? I don't have any high aspirations I just want to remove some of the "unremovable" trash-ware that came on the phone - specifically the ancient version of skype mobile...
