Help Droid razr maxx question

I am sure someone here can help me...I just bought the razr maxx today. I love it! My message indicator is showing up n the top drop down bar but there are not any notifications on the text or email icons at the bottom of the screen. I had the Samsung charge before this phone & message indicators would show up in both places. I hope this makes sense.....

It makes sense.
Open your email app, and go into the settings to make sure you have it set to receive the notifications for number of emails. Then open your texting app, and go into settings, and check that it is also enabled. I think those are done individually in each app, unless for some reason the Razr has a general notification setting for both, but probably not.

Thank you so much but that didn't work. I am still only receiving email & text notifications in the drop down at top of the screen, not on the icon. I guess I just need more time to try to figure it out. The phone updated to ICS last night & now everything has changed again....oh well! Thank you again for your help.
