Droid unsmart

I have just got my first "smart" phone and obviously I am not smart enough to use it. Everyone said I would love my Droid but it is constantly disconnecting me during the middle of calls. Am I pushing something (I have tried to be very careful) or what is wrong. My old unsmart phone never dropped calls

if it happens in places you always had great coverage/no dropped calls I'd take it to the tech's at a Verizon store.
