Droid vs Droid 2 - video comparison [www.droid-life.com / Android and Me]

This is already on the Android News & Talk forum but I figured it deserved to be here as well.

I found it on Droid Life (Video: Droid 2 Compared to Droid 1, Not Many Differences | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog)

Looks like Kellex found the video on Android and Me - Google Android phone news, apps, and rumors

YouTube - Hands on the Motorola Droid 2

I kind of agree with the guy who made the video that it's really not that different. I do like the styling a little better, the keyboard looks a little better, and the processor is a little better. A few small improvements but not enough to make me want to spend any amount of money to upgrade to it (especially not until it's been rooted).

Given the choice between the Droid and the Droid 2 it's obviously the same winning formula of the Droid plus a few improvements where the Droid is weak. Hopefully it will be similar enough to the Droid that ROMs will be interchangeable and we'll get a bunch of new friends in our little Droid world -- Sorry "Droid" Incredible and "Droid" Eris, you don't really count :p

I must say I'm surprised they didn't upgrade the camera which I think is one of the Droids biggest shortcomings.

The additional RAM will be nice as well (512mb vs 256mb). I think that has a lot to do with the smoothness Incredible users say they experience compared to the Droid.

I honestly think they will put it on there. In order to keep up with the feature set they think the average consumer wants they need to.

As long as you can turn it off or remove it, I really don't care. If you're stuck with it (like Sense) then that would be annoying.

I thought the droid 2 was gunna have 8GB of internal storage, which is totally killer? Where did 512MB come from? Check out this picture that shows the internal phone storage. Am I misunderstanding what I'm seeing? 8GB sounded outrageous when I saw that.

Internal storage and RAM are two different things. The 512mb I mentioned is the amount of RAM the Droid 2 and Droid X will have, and the amount the Droid Incredible and the EVO, N1, etc etc all have. Our Droid only has 256mb.

As far as the internal storage goes (people refer to it as ROM - read only memory - but that's not really true) I don't know how much they have. 8gb sounds possible but unlikely.

It has 8 GBs of storage (think SD card, but internal) and 512 MBs of RAM (for having more apps running simultaneously on the phone). I'm actually not sure it has the internal storage either.

I'll prolly sell my Droid toward one just for the RAM upgrade. It's the only thing I want fixed on the Droid. Hopefully the devs all go to Droid 2 from Droid too so we can have the same ROM community.

Edit: damn, stallion beat me to it :p.

Sense isn't 100% locked in as default, once you add a Launcher app you can use default Home, Sense, or LP.

But back on topic, that keyboard is looking really nice. That and the CPU power is about the only thing I like better though. I prefer the more industrial/sharp edges of the Current droid a little more. The front is okay, though the "chin" is definitely a feature I enjoyed the look of. It's different.

I wanted to see the sliding action...the Droid has a terrrible terrible slider...my least fav. thing about it

After seeing this video I really don't see a significant advantage of the Droid 2 over the Droid. Especially if Droid 2 has motoblur!

There's not a chance I'm getting one of these because it barely presents anything new, but I'm curious how high the processor overclocks.

Hell, I'm probably the biggest advocate of the physical keyboard on this forum (I recently figured out that's because I have the bubbly keyboard and never realized it... heh), but I'd rather have the Droid X than the Droid 2. It's superior in every way except for lack of a physical keyboard.

Yeah, I don't think there's going to be too many Droid users upgrading. But if you are coming from a diff phone, then yeah, it makes sense. And while I'm sure more RAM will help make things quicker, being rooted and on 2.2, my Droid is as quick and responsive ad my g/f's Incredible. I really love this phone. lol

I just can't justify buying a new phone that I know will not support LTE.

If you're just getting into the smartphone market, then yeah. But if you already have a Droid then there really is no reason to upgrade to a new phone unless it's free or something.
