Droid X 32GB SD class 10

Hi, I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before, I did a search and couldn't find the info I needed.

I have a rooted Droid X running CM4GB version 7.1.0 droidx-kang

Short question. Could my phone just hate 32 GB cards even tho they are supposed to work, or could it be the ROM?

Long story for background.

I bought a 32GB class 4 (plain black-cheapie) from Walmart and tried it and it seemed to be toast from the very beginning, never did get it to mount. Then, I purchased a new 32 GB SD card from Costco Sandisk ultra-red/gray) to upgrade the space on my phone. It worked buggy for a day, I found some windows files (desktop.ini and thumbs.db) on the card and found those might be the problem. I deleted them, used Pimp My Music to find missing cover art for my mp3s and fix the ID3 tags on some stuff. All was perfect for the rest of the night. The next morning I tried to copy my newly perfected music folder back to my PC via the data cable as a backup and all hell broke loose. The phone locked up and I had to do a battery pull and tried again. Got the music transferred but some folders were missing (corrupted by the lockup?) so I found the missing one on my PC to transfer back to the SD...this time via the SD in the adapter. Since then, the card locks the phone up after varying amounts of time (everything has been fine for as long as a couple hours -thought everything was fixed), says it's damaged or just not there. The card works flawlessly in PC in the adapter (get recognized everytime, no prob). Formatted the card with windows and re-did the transfers. Still random lock ups, damaged card warnings etc. Formatted with the long format on sdformatter tried everything again. NO LUCK. Put an old 2 GB in as I had already given my 16 GB to my son...the 2 GB works fine though I didn't transfer any data to it.

Is it hopeless, should I try another brand...IS there a better brand. Does anyone use CM4GB and have a working 32gb card?

Any help or advice appreciated. Thanks.

I am not sure if this will do anything but when I first get a new card for my phone I install it and format it through the phone itself (it's under settings somewhere). I use a Lexar 32GB card with my rooted S3 with no issues.

Have a 32gb class 10 Sandisk card in my rooted razr and it runs flawlessly.
Sandisk cards are IMO the best/reliable cards out there. A lot of fakes floating around however so make sure you get the real deal.

This is probably the best advice.

OP: If you bought a card and it already had windows files on it, then you got a card that had been refurbished or returned/repackaged. Format it like Mostly Harmless suggested (usually the SD card format option is under settings > storage and sometimes you have to unmount it first before it becomes an option). If it still fails, return it for a replacement.

My old DX used to use a 32 GB SD card. It isn't the phone (and I doubt it is the ROM).

Sorry I didn't explain myself clear enough...the windows files were from me. I copied my music collection and pasted it to the the phone and there were some windows junk files in the stuff I copied over.

Funny I missed something so obvious as using the phone itself to format, when the card was originally working at it's best it was from a phone format. Don't know how I got it in my head to use something else to format. I went looking for the forest instead of seeing the trees :) I will try a phone format later.

I read that droid doesn't like deep files(deeper that 2 I think it said) does anyone have any experience with that, should I make the file structure more simple? I currently have music folder>artist folder>album folder>mp3s.

I don't think it's a fake card since it was purchased in original packaging from Costco an not a bulk-in-a-plastic-bag card from Ebay or Amazon.

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply.
