Help Droid X Contacts Bugged?

Hi, I've been having problems with my contacts for a while now, but it hasn't quite gotten to me until now...

Some problems which I've discovered are:
1. My phone will not sync my contacts to Google
2. Whenever I add a new contact, it constantly asks me if I would like to store it into "Google" or "Backup Assistant" even though I choose Google and check off "Remember this choice" every time.
3. When I search for names in the "To:" box when composing a text, some of the phone numbers will not appear. Rather, only the contact name and its email will appear even though I have the number clearly inputted when I find the name in my contacts.

If anyone knows a fix to this problem, I would be highly grateful since it is a bit of a nuisance... Help would be greatly appreciated!

In your settings, do you have your Google sync settings set to include your contacts?

yes i do, and when i manually go into settings-->accounts-->[google account]-->sync contacts it still does not sync.

So it's not syncing ANYTHING? You have nothing stored at contacts.google.com?

the only contacts that are currently in my gmail account are the ones i just added where i went through the option of storing it into google. in the past i had simply had it saved to the verizon backup assistant but i want to move all of my contacts into google.
