Droid X is adding numbers - letters on its own?

I have a Droid X 4 yrs old, great phone but just started adding numbers and letters when not touching the phone. Has become ultra sensitive on the screen also. Pulled the battery, no change. Is it time to replace it or is there a fix? The phone is current on updates running 2.3.4. with Verizon.

There are screen calibration apps. If the screen cab be recalibrated back to normal sensitivity you have a 10 minute fix. Otherwise it's time for a new touch screen or a new phone.
