Help Droid X went kaput on me

chmodx

Android Enthusiast
Last night I charged my phone and took it off this morning to browse the web. It locked up after a few minutes and I couldn't do anything with even the power button.

I did a battery pull and then it wouldn't turn back on.

Tried pulling sd as well, no result. Plugged it into the charger without battery and got the flashing green light. Plugged it in with the battery and nothing.

Went to verizon today and tried a new battery-nothing.

Anything else I should try in the mean time?

Replacement coming....

My phone count since Sep 2010:
4 droid 2s
1 samsung fascinate
2 droid X

I'm thinking smart phones are no bueno.

My phone count since August 2009:
1 iPhone 3Gs
1 Droid X

Been bueno for me.

As far as your problem, can't think of anything else you could try. You pulled the battery, you tried a new battery, you pulled the SD card,, plugged it in multiple ways, sounds like something definitely went kaput there. Bummer. Hope the 8th time is a charm!

I removed the battery and hooked it up to USB, when I put the battery in(while connected), I get the windows connect sound, and then the windows disconnect sound(no activity on the phone).

So sad...

It sounds like your device is defective, and that you've been on the refurb merry-go-round that we see reported here fairly often.

I've not had it happen to me so far with three different Androids: Eris, Fascinate and Galaxy Tab, but I've seen stories in all of those forums which sound a bit like yours.

If I were to encounter an obvious defect in one of my devices, I'd do my best to get a true brand new replacement rather than a refurb. Second round would have me thinking twice about that model of Android.

Yeah I had a legitimate list of defects with replacement phones and have a feeling I'm headed down the same route now.

I'm really sick of this all in general, should've just stuck with a regular phone.

Thanks to all. I've had my Droid X for slightly less than 2 months, my first smartphone. Encountered first problem, a lock-up, 3 weeks in. Found a Verizon store in a strange city using phone book and maps, and got what seems to be the standard advice: "do a daily battery pull". All has been fine until tonight's pull, when the phone refused to turn on post-pull. When I put it on the charger the Motorola emblem came up, followed by a battery with question mark in it, and back to black screen. I've now done the rinse and repeat about 15 times on the pull and reset with the same result, tried eraser on battery contact. Off to Verizon on Easter Sunday.

Follow-up: Today's visit to Verizon (closed yesterday) revealed that "the phone is fried". No Droid Xs in stock, so they're overnighting me one. It was relatively painless and they also replaced my car mount, which would not permit docked charging after the first use, no problem.

Will putting my SD card in the new phone make for a seamless transition?

I'm a bit disconcerted that a 2 month old phone, used relatively lightly, stock, just went phfffft for no apparent reason. Glad I have a Net10 for backup.

Many of your settings are backed up to your gmail account and your apps should be in the market ready to auto-download. If you are rooted and did nandroid backups, you could go straight back to the last setup you had.

All electronics have a certain failure rate and it usually happens within the first couple of months. It sucks but it happens. Most people have no problems with their X's and are able to use them continuously for the life of the contract or upgrade cycle.
