Root Droid X - Wifi or Custom rom?

AmneonX

I am a complete n00b to the rooting and rom scene. I recently used Z4root, and have a bunch of the root requiring apps on my phone.

Would it be easier to 1) download a kernel to enable the wifi or 2) Would I be better off getting a custom rom?

Which ever you choose, can you link me to where to get them at.

Not quite understanding? I haven't flashed a ROM yet that disables wifi. Don't think it's an either or issue.

My question was should I just download the kernel needed for the wifi, or should I just get a custom rom that has that kernel build inside it(if one exists)?

Nevermind, I tried connecting a minute a go for giggles, and it connected just fine. No need to download a wifi enabled kernal. Very cool, now I can have data on my Galaxy Tab where ever I go.

My question is once you have Wireless Tether installed, are you hit with a monthly fee from Verizon or does the Wireless Tether on a rooted phone work like PDANet works, it just uses your smartphones data connection and you are not charged any extra monthly fees? Just asking because I know Verizon charges extra if you enable their Wifi Hotspot and I don't want any extra fees, that is for sure ;)

If you're using Wireless Tether for Root (or whatever it's called), then you won't be billed. Apparently it's possible for VZW to know that you're doing it though, so use at your own risk. No one I know has been charged for using it though.
