Help Droid X without Verizon Service

Hello,

Is it possible to use a Droid X as a WiFi only Android device without activating the Verizon service?

My wife had the Verizon Droid X but switched to another phone. Now, I wanted to reclaim the device and use it without the phone service. I was trying to remove all her personal data but I ended up wiping everything and brought me back to the startup screen "Welcome to DROIDX...Touch the android to begin".

I think I'm at the point where you have just purchased a new Droid X from Verizon but haven't quite activated the service. As I said, I do not want to activate this phone, but I don't see any way to bypass it and use android. When I click the android it shows only the option to activate with a 10 digit number. I tried using 911 but it kept asking for 10 digits. When I tried the emergency dial, and then entered 911, it went ahead and called 911.

Thanks for any help.

you can use only your Wi Fi with out hooking up service with verison. you have to know someone that has a verison account. i used my aunt. i called verison customer support or tech support and had them hook up my droid x to her account by taking her phone off her account. as soon as my phone was connected to her account i when through the begining process of booting up the phone. once the phone was on and ready to use like normal, i then had verison take the phone back off her account and reconnect her phone to her account. i made sure it wouldn't affect her bill and i would in no way be connected to her account. so now i have a factory reset Droid X ready to use with no verison service, and only using wi fi. you must have a google account to really be able to connect and do anything with it. i am in the process of trying to get my boost mobile service switched over to the droid x. if you have any idea how to do that please let me know. Thanks and i hope this helps. [email redacted]

Welcome to Android Forums rjt1981.:)

I'm glad you found a way to get set up but there is far simpler method. After the factory reset when the screen for Activation comes up, just tap the four corners of the black area around the little green dude.

Top Left --> Top Right --> Bottom Right --> Bottom Left

You can then set up your wifi and sign into your google account.
