Droidwall and rooting or recommend a firewall

Hello folks,

Soon I am going to get a very limited data plan so looking for a firewall. I searched and found that Droidwall is the best but requires rooting. My question is, I did not buy my HTC One X from a carrier, bought from a reseller i.e. not locked to any carrier and related things. Do I still need to root it to install and use this application?

If I don't wish to root, what other equivalent options do I have?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings deltaforce,

Needing to have root for a app to work has nothing to do with the phone being locked or unlocked. So if a app needs root, then it needs root.

Most of the firewalls I looked at require root. I use droidwall.

The only one I found that doesn't seem to mention root is Avast mobile security. This does a whole lot more than just providing firewall service.

I use avast on my PC, but I have no idea how well it works on phones.

Here is a link to it in the playstore. You can read up on it to see if it's for you.

Good luck, hope this helps.
