+1 for SugarSync

ES File Explorer can also be used to exchange files with Dropbox, without using the Dropbox application. This is handy, if you have huge amount of files in Dropbox and don't want all that to auto-sync to your phone.

Whooooah, hold the phone. I guess that makes perfect sense, but you're saying that installing DropBox on my phone is syncing all those files to my SD card and not just providing me with an interface to access everything from their servers?

Odd. I just plugged my phone in to see what was happening and Dropbox notified me that it would not function while I was connected to the computer (or that I have no SD, which we know is incorrect). Yet looking at my SD I don't see a Dropbox directory anywhere other than the empty `com.dropbox.android` under `Android/data`. So what's the skinny here; is it just an interface, or is it syncing behind my back somewhere?

I may have missed something with DropBox on both my SGS2 and iPad, in that it seems to only allow access to files in the DropBox online, and allows you to copy them to the device. It doesn't, as far as I can make out, actually SYNC files between the device and the cloud/desktop.

SugarSync on the other hand does - the free account id 5Gb, (better than DropBox's 2Gb) but it is a little more fiddly/confusing to set up. However now that it is set up, I do have sync (at regular intervals or manually) of the files in my SugarSync folder on my device and on my desktop.

Um, no. Dropbox on Android does not autosync any files. The app is a front end that lets you send files TO dropbox, or download FROM dropbox. No syncing.

True. Sorry, my mistake.
However, as soon as you download a file, it appears in SD card "dropbox" folder.
