Dropped F6 in the toilet -_-

Bard

well like the title said i dropped it in the toilet...

luckily, it was before my morning routine so water was (relatively..) clean, so i acted quickly and pull it out, :p

i dried it with towel outside first,

then opened up battery cover, only small drops of water was inside, sensitive parts were all unaffected, i cleaned them up with towel and hair dryer

phone working okay, all functions work, it charges, memory card okay..

now the only bad part is.. it seems like its usb function is damaged, somehow computer is charging it but it's not recognizing it as USB device

i tried with different cable, different computers, restart phone, restart computer, reinstall LG drivers etc etc.. none worked.. when I connect my other phone (like galaxy mega) computer immediately recognize as USB attached, but not F6, hence I can't transfer file from/to F6

another bad news is i can't develop ROM -_-;; if it breaks down i won't be able to unroot and factory reset,

has anyone experience with similar issue? it charges with USB cable but computer not recognize it as USB device..

P.S.

by the way i washed my hands too... not sure i washed F6 first or my hands but I definitely washed them :)

It may have been toast from the begining, but you may have not waited long enough to let it dry out before rebooting. Hair drier is not going to do much for any moisture inside. I always makes sure to turn off immediately pull the cover and the battery(if possible) and stuff it in a bag of rice for no less than 24 hours before trying to reboot. I read where some have used the 80% isopropyl alcohol(not the 70% and the 99% is too $$) and rinse it to absorb the water, then stuff into a bag of rice. It is hygroscopic so don't use an old bottle sitting around!

If you wan't to send it to me, I may be able to repair it. If it comes down to it I have an extra motherboard (metro pcs) I can swap.

If you are interested msg me.

Good news! This morning, my computer suddenly installs driver and starting to recognize the phone.

I am still cautious though, if it bricks then errors out again, I will lose my daily driver.

The USB port might be finally dried out.. or something...

Thanks though :)

That's good. My girl dropped her phone in the lake when we were loading the boat, it had to have been 10 sec before she got it out. I am shocked it was not damaged.

But I get allot of customers with water damaged iPads and stuff, most of the time it's not a cheap fix, lol

My F6s LCD screen got cracked somehow without breaking the glass and now i'm left with nothing. Is it worth repairing the LCD or should I move on to a new phone?

From Ebay, F6's LCD / Digitizer goes for $20-30

USA New LG Optimus f6 D500 LCD Screen Display Repair Replacement Parts | eBay

If you have experience and repair tool ready (or have a friend who can do it for you), you may want to attempt it. $20 is still a lot cheaper that the new phone.

But people say poorly repaired LCD is not very responsive and may have gap which will allow dust and water leak later.

I have Galaxy Mega LCD broken too... it's LCD is around $50-60, so I am not attempting it. Plus.. I've never done LCD fix myself so, I don't want to blow up $60 ><

You should probably be starting your own thread about it instead of hijacking someone else's.

But as bard said, if you know what you're doing then fine.
Any phone you know how to fix is worth fixing if you don't have access to replacement phones. There is no point in spending $20 if you break it more, then you're out the $20 and the cost of the phone.

I dropped my phone in the toilet once, and then I dropped it in the puddle of water while riding my bike. It fell straight out of the pocket of my hoodie both times. When it dropped into the toilet, It was submerged for like 2 seconds and then I grabbed it, took the battery out and dried the the whole phone/battery. I stuck it a bag full of rice, waited 48 hours and attempted to turn it on and it worked.

The rice trick has never let me down the numerous times I've had to use it.

Since your USB Port is giving you issues on multiple computers, multiple cables, etc. I would try to set it in the rice for a day or two, with the battery out of the phone and stick both in the bag of rice.

I had issues with a different phone after it dropped in water and I dried it out (not with rice), let it sit for a couple hours, and tried it.. The phone was giving me issues with some of the buttons not working.. I read around online and found out about the rice trick, I tried it and let the phone completely dry out for days. After that I tried it and the phone was back to normal.

I can't guarantee that will work for you, but it's worth a shot. Hopefully something didn't short out when you dropped it in the water, causing the USB port to not work properly. There is a good chance though, that that is what happen.

Good Luck

The screen on my F6 also cracked. T-mobile's insurance plan, that I was paying $8.00 a month on, wanted $100.00 to replace the phone. This Free Phone wasn't worth spending that much on.

My solution was to get a screen protector for the F6. It covers the whole screen. You can't feel the crack, and you can't even see the crack, unless at a certain angle.

So the same thing happened to my phone. Dropped it in the toilet this morning. Sadly, our damage situations are the same. My best advice is to get it checked out at the store. You don't always have to be your own handyman. Don't be ashamed. LOL. Anyway, my situation is that whenever I turn my phone on, the screen keeps flashing and going up and down. Any advice?

This will sound weird but it has help me..... Its a 30 minutes process.
1* Get a cheap rubbing alcohol 70 or 90% from a dollar store.... (Alcohol dries water)
2* Fill a cup with it.... Before filling up make sure phone fits in.
3* take battery, SIM, SDcard out....
4* Press power botton for 30sec....
5* Dump the phone inside cup for 30sec to 1min depending how long the phone has been under water.....
****MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE PHONE OUT.... LOL****
6* Get a hairdryer blow into it in midheat for 2min not to close then in cool temp for 3 min close range.... make sure you target all creases of phone...
7* Let it rest for 2-5 min
8* Then put battery back without sim n sd and try to turn it on.
9* Check all functionality ( vol rockets, Quickbotton if applicable, Camera,
10* Turn it back off and check screen issues
***NOW PUT IN SIM N SD**

***OPTIONAL***
If you encountee blurriness with cam u can dump it in rice over night to take any humidity out of lenses.

I recently resurrected a rained soaked phone, which remained broken days after the soaking. As a long shot, I buried it (sans battery) in old rice for a couple days. I didn't expect it to work, but rice fixed the problem.
