Help Dropped Sony Xperia XL on wet floor, won't turn on without plugged into power?

I was walking in rain when my ZL accidentally fell out of my pocket and onto the floor which was wet. I picked it up and it was still working perfectly fine and for the next two days it still worked but then it shut itself off randomly and wouldn't turn back on unless I plugged it into the wall to charge. After only having the phone for less than 2 months, it was already dead and I moved on. $550 down the toilet for the phone.

That happened almost 1.5 years ago in 2013 and I am now using a Oneplus One but I was wondering if there is any way to fix this phone? I'm not sure why it failed but I am assuming dropping it in rain probably did it in.

It's more likely that the drop onto a hard surface caused something inside to fail.
