Dropping Calls

Are there any known issues with the sanfrancisco dropping calls?

Daughters phone which i upgraded with Swedish Spring, but it seems to drop calls on a fairly regular basis

Orange have been having a bad time of it of late apparently. They've a number of masts down and I've noticed a few threads in other subforums with Orange users having similar problems.

The way the network handles the preference between 2G & 3G also has a lot to do with it.

I've had no problem with dropped calls until today. Twice this morning I have been talking to the misses and the call has dropped. She's on 3 and I'm on giffgaff. I'm hoping it was just her losing her 3G signal.

Isn't Orange expensive by the way? Although thinking about it if you use Orange Wednesday frequently it probably all balances out.

Not sure about PAYG, but contract is pretty reasonable.

I've been with them for years so I get half price insurance and every time I renew, I get 10% off my line rental.

My only gripe would be their 3G coverage is pants.

I was with Orange for 2 years prior to getting my OSF. With a 10% off your line rental each time you renew and half price insurance I can see your incentive to stay!

I had to switch to PAYG as my finances were (and still are!) shot to peices. giffgaff had the best rates for what I wanted (closely followed by 3).

As you're probably aware giffgaff use the O2 network which isn't fantasic when it comes to 3G signals either!

EDIT

I say closely followed by 3 - technically 3 were 50% more expensive.

I find it slightly ironic that you leave Orange when you get an Orange branded handset :p.

OP, is this just since you switched to SS or has it always been the case?

I changed in the first week, so difficult to say if problem was there previously.

Was going to get another one for the wife but now i'm not so sure. If i did it would probable be tesco and she'd put her existing TMobile sim in.

(Vodafine and O2 both have no signal at our house, and we're not in the sticks.

I blame that El Presidente guy from this thread: http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/350261-best-budget-android-uk.html

:D

The Gen 2 devices have a new radio which can improve things by all accounts, it might be worth doing a TPT to see if that improves things?

My 3G reception seems a bit better lately. I don't know if that's due to switching from SS Gen 1 to CM7 Gen 2, or whether O2 have just improved things in my area (before I had no 3G at home and now I have 2-3 bars usually).

TPT means Total Phone Transfer.

It flashes a new partition layout (it just resizes the phones internal memory, giving you a little more space for apps) and a new radio. It's a relatively easy procedure, but it is potentially risky.

I think Swedish Spring is compatible with the new layout, although I'll need to read up on it again to confirm.

I've not actually TPT'd yet, but Vorbis has and he'd only had his handset a week or so. I've a mate who had his phone about an hour before he did it so it can't be hard at all.

Okay, we now have 2 of these phones and they're brilliant accept they BOTH drop calls very frequently ( other than that they're as good as my desire - well nearly)

I thinking I would like to change from swedish spring to the cyanogen thingy.

Could someone advise how easy this is to do and what steps i would need to do after already having followed the guide for SS.

If you could point me to a guide that would be good.

Many thanks
