Dropping the Note

In the course of using a Galaxy S for a year, I have dropped it about five times, from as high as waist height, to concrete floor. But the fall was usually broken by parts of my leg as I tried to deflect it to decrease its vertical velocity. The S was tough, and nothing bad happened to my phone.

With the significantly increased weight of the Note, I wonder if it can withstand similar abuse. The lack of a strap means that sooner or later I am going to drop it.

lol, I wondered the same thing. The sucker is so wide, thin and rounded and it's inevitable for this to happen sooner or later. I almost did it a few times in two weeks. Not good.
Who drops it first, tell us if it survived or not.

Well, it just took place. A departure from controlled flight, into terrain!

The Note was on the table with about the bottom third protruding outside the table edge. One stronger zoom of the Internet browser with the fingers sent the Note airborne. Fortunately the Flip Cover was attached. But upon contact with the concrete floor five feet below (I was sitting at a table which itself was on a raised platform), it disintegrated into three parts: the main phone, the battery, and the Flip Cover.

I didn't have a high speed video recording played back in slow motion to figure out how it landed.

After putting everything back, all look normal. Physical wise, there does not seem to be a scratch anywhere.

That's one data point for you.

I am unsure how to write this? If you purchase this type of equipment it will not take kindly to being dropped on a concrete floor.
Its like watches, if you purchase the average mechanical movement watch and drop it it will break. If you are inclined to drop such things as watches or mobiles a suggestion would be the casio G-shock that is made to take such treatment or one of the specialist phone makers that also produce a phone that can take some knocks.

Lets be realistic the GNote is not designed to be dropped, its a precision manufactured piece of hardware.

I suggest you purchase a rubber shell cover for it, see Amazon for different types etc then keep it in some sort of holdal as well?

Best to prevent and prepare?

Casio G-Shock is just a marketing thing. All Casio digital watches since, like, 1980, including a cheap $10 one, are good enough for all human activities including taking a trip to the International Space Station and back. Just don't use it as a hocky puck.

Unfortunately more general purpose mobile computers haven't reached that stage yet. But we use them with high frequency everywhere. And we want them light and small, which means we don't like lots of padding. What can be done, like you said, is to prevent drops rather than build them to survive drops. That is why I am surprised the hole for putting on a strap is absent from the Note. I find it very unnerving to hold a mobile phone at the window when it does not have a safety strap.

I can asure you the G-shock is not a marketing ploy thery truly are very tough watches. I have a watch collection of well over 55 watches and they range from limited editions costing rather a lot of money to the G-Shock. I feel safe wearing the G-shock but take great care with the rest of my collection.

Regarding the note, yes, you are correct. No place to tie a wrist strap? I bought one only last night for the S11

I am still trying to acclimatise myself with the Note but fear its just not going to fit what I want. Its just not 'portable' enough for everyday pick up and do what you want.
The lag is also very disappointing. Non of this on the S11.
