Help Dropping to 3G since KitKat

Ever since the KitKat update my DNA has been periodically dropping to 3G. It's driving me crazy. It will eventually bounce back to 4G, but this is something that never happened prior to KitKat.

Makes my decision regarding the 5/27 LG G3 launch a little easier......

EDIT: Just checked my DNA to see if I jumped back to 4G yet, and it's in 1X!! I don't think I've ever once seen that before. I'm sitting at my desk where I should get 3-4 bars of 4G. Something is amiss....

Try going into settings and changing your preferred network to LTE/CDMA. For some reason the update had it default to Global.

Actually this kind of fixes it. I'm still playing with it. It's not as bad but still present. I just tweeted Mo Versi @ HTC that there is a potential issue.

I was already set for CDMA/LTE. If I had a twitter account, I'd tweet Mo too. Might sign up just to do it.

Hmmm... Phone dropped back to 3g. Did cache partition wipe again and now it seems to be stable in 4g again. This is squirelly at best.

It, so far, has fixed my issue. Have have no real expectation of a permanent fix, but so far so good.

We were at some friends last night, and I was bouncing between 3G and 1X there. I've always had a 4G signal at their house. DH had a 3G on his old crappy phone. Ugh.

I had not noticed this before till yesterday when I was down town doing some shopping. Made the setting change and cache wipe so will go down there on the way home and see if the same happens again this evening.

Make no since down there I'm even closer to the tower. lol

Mayhap a call to Verizon Wireless. I had a similar issue dropping to 3G/1X:eek: on my Moto X last week and it was tower work in my area as the culpret.

I went down town and sure enough I dropped to 3G and after 20 minutes that 1X crap.

I'll surrender to maybe working on a tower so will wait and check Monday evening if still the same I'll give Big Red a call.

Been thinking of adding a 2ed phone to the account but if they are crapping out with service not going to.

I may try that cache wipe to see if it fixes some of my other issues.

How can you guys be sure it's not a network problem? Long before the KK update I noticed Verizon in my area has been real flaky. The tower that serves me at home is very close but I still find myself dropping to 3G overnights, especially between 2-5 am and during rush hour when all the tourists have the highways clogged up.

At least in my case it shouldn't be a signal issue, I'm sitting at -60 dBm on the LTE band and -52 dBm on the 1xRTT band.

If anything, my 4G reliability actually seems to have increased in the areas where I'm signal challenged. There's a small airport near some shopping centers in the next town, so all the cell towers are spaced out and short. I always lose 4G going in the supermarket and the Target there, often hitting 1X if I go deep in the back of the stores. But lately I've been able to keep it on 3G, so it seems like it's gotten better for me.

Either way, it's still subpar compared to the Moto RAZR HD my father uses. He stays on 4G pretty much all the time in those stores and anywhere else mine drops down.

I would never see 3G prior to 4.4.2. Only if I went out to the middle of nowhere. Now I drop to 3G in my office and in my house, areas that I never once saw 3G before. In fact, I'm sitting here on 3G right now. All other phones in the office are on 4G, so it's an issue with my phone, that's new since the update.

May 27th can't get here fast enough.....

Let me add that I don't think this is a DNA specific issue, but a 4.4.2 issue, at least with HTC. My co-worker has an M8, and (also on 4.4.2) and he has the same issue. We never, however, have the issue at the same time while at the same place, and we're the only ones in the office having issues, so that tells me it isn't a network issue.

Yep, that sounds like some sort of software bug. I hope there's some truth to them working on 4.4.3 with fixes for all these weird problems.

I am in contact via email with some sort of techie at HTC. So far he has asked some really basic questions about the 4g behavior post 4.4.2 Ota. I don't have anything to go on from them yet but will certainly give an update if they come up with something firm.

Still waiting for a response back from them. The last email that I got said that they "understood the behavior and are looking into it". Whatever that means.
